Hello I just got the new update and it has deleted all my Firefox/Addon settings. Is there anyway to get them back? Thank you, Biohazard42.

You can see in the screenshot that the available backups have about 137 bookmarks for the most recent backup (older backups have more). If that is the correct amount then at least you can get your bookmarks back.

Hi Biohazard42, sorry to hear about this problem.

If you haven't already, could you close out of Firefox and do a normal Windows shutdown and restart to complete any pending updates and release any file locks.

If Firefox again starts up without your data, could you check whether your stuff is available in a different profile, as follows:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. Each will show links to a pair of folders; please ignore those for now.

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Anyway, please do not delete anything here -- don't use any Remove buttons.

Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Any progress so far, or do we need to keep looking for your data in some other places?

Hey, Just tried all of that and it's still the same. and there is only one profile Default.

Do you still have your bookmarks or is it all new?

Could you check for additional profile folders in the following places:

(A) Desktop

During a Refresh, Firefox moves your profile folder to the desktop inside a folder named Old Firefox Data. Do you see anything like that?

(B) Profiles path

This is a shortcut you can paste into the Windows 10 search box to pop up a file viewer in the Profiles folder:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Here you should see at least one folder with a partially random name like

a35pq91w.default

Do you see any other folders here?

I still have all my bookmarks, There is no Old Firefox Data. And there is only one .default folder.

I'm puzzled because it sounds like a Refresh -- bookmarks, logins and open tabs migrated, customized preferences, extensions, and themes not migrated -- but the folder locations and names don't match what normally happens in a Refresh so there isn't an obvious source of old data for recovery.

(Hoping for inspiration or another support volunteer having a good suggestion.)

Thanks for the help anyway. I'll have to go for tonight so will see if there is anything later. Thanks for your time.

Are there compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder available?

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

Not sure if they are compressed sorry, But I have included a pic.
