Open new window when I click on a link

When I click on a link, I want it to open in a new window. In Oprions/General/Tabs.....I have NO boxes checked. Is there a bug in the latest version - or someway to get it back the way it used to work? Now when I click on a link it opens in the same window - not a new one. I now have to hold the shift key down when I click on the link to open in a new window.

Hi Dataport, this is what Firefox normally does:

  • Link is coded to open in a new window (targeted): divert it to a new tab instead -- there is a checkbox on the Options page to turn that off
  • Link is not specially coded to open in a new window (untargeted): open it in the same tab

Are you having a problem with the first kind of link or the second kind?

There is an update out to fix the problem of uBlock Origin (and other extensions) being disabled so you can get back to a more sane web experience. See: Update Firefox to the latest release.

Sry for the delay on this. Here’s an example: I open EBay for a search. (FF/Options – no box checked under Tabs).

Before: If I clicked on an item to review, it opened in a new window – keeping the search page open in original window.
Now: Click on an item to review, and it opens in the same window.

Went back into Options and checked the Tab boxes. Same problem – can’t get a link to open in a new tab at the top. Version: Firefox Quantum 66.0.5 (64-bit)

The only way to get the link to open in a new window is Shift+Link.

Hmm, mine open in the same tab. Is it possible there is an eBay setting for that (search engine sites usually have a setting, not sure about eBay)? If not, is it possible you used to have an add-on that modified the links?
