Built-in keyconfig for Firefox Quantum. AT LAST!
This is the single biggest issue with Firefox Quantum, preventing many from migrating their principal browser from Firefox 56 to Firefox Quantum.
How is it possible that after two years such a crucial functionality - UI to assigning custom keyboard shortcuts - is still NOT implemented to Firefox Quantum? With the introduction of Firefox Quantum the Mozilla team ditched thousands of useful extensions - in order to get a clean start. The Mozilla team did this deep cut deliberately. I understand the reasons. However, as a consequence, you than have to build-in such core functionalities to Firefox Quantum.
It is just super odd that a super niche market browser, Vivaldi, delivers this functionality built-in to their browser for years now, and the Mozilla team does not even provide a road map to deliver this core functionality. I am contuniously running 4 Firefoxes in parallel for different tasks, in favor of Safari, in favor of Chrome, I have been patient, understanding that the Mozilla team needs some time to add the core functionalities to Quantum, but I start losing my patience. RELIABLE customizable shortcuts is extremely important for profressional users. Well-meant but unreliable workarounds such as Saka Key do not deliver the reliability needed by professional Firefox users. We, the professional Firefox users are RECOMMENDING Firefox to dozens, hundreds of other users. If this further should be in Mozilla's interest please start acting now. THANKS in advance.

If you update to Firefox 66.0.3 or later (which you should be doing anyway) and install something like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/saka-key/ does that accomplish what you want?
Sorry, Saka Key's configuration options are limited and shorcut-changes are not working reliably. I am using Firefox Quantum on some machines where I only need a browser occasionally. I have installed Saka Key there and therefore I have personal experience using this extension.
Also further development of Saka Key seems to have stalled. As far as I undertand this is for architectural reasons of Firefox Quantum. I have even looked into omni.ja but making changes there is not advised because a) it's cumbersome b) changes can be overwritten any time by Firefox updates.
Thus, the only proper, professional AND reliable solution for shortcut customization is to be done by the Mozilla team. You guys have access and full control over the inguts of Firefox. With Firefox Quantum you have introduced a stringent model for extensions and their interaction with Firefox. For security reasons, I understand.
But on the other side this now requires the Mozilla team to implement functionalities into Firefox which previously could have been delivered by add-ons. Customization of shortcuts definitely is one of these core functionalities, namely for a browser heavily used by professionall users around the globe.
