Tabs crashing randomly

I can be actively browsing or be afk, it doesn't matter it seems, but sometimes tab would just crash. Can be active tab or some other, I'm kinda lost. I suspect it's hardware acceleration related, but I would like to fix the issue rather than turn it off.

Some reports:

I would love to find a reason and a fix for that. Using latest nvidia drivers and latest firefox.

A shutdown hang means the browser is taking too long to do something.

See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Yeah shutdown hang is something different, ignore that I think.

As I said using the latest drivers, I figured nvwgf2umx_cfg.dll is 3d driver related, so I used DDU and clean installed latest driver again. Still tab crashed after that. I also use XMP profile for memory, could this be related?

Have you tried Firefox Safe Mode?

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

No, I haven't tried safe mode or clean install (this install is like 5 days old), and just one extension. Currently trying stock memory profile, no xmp. Will see if any tab crashes.

Tried using browser without hardware acceleration and ublock origin extension, still had few tab crashes yesterday.

I'm running out of ideas. Using safe mode now, will see how it goes.

Used Safe mode for a day, no tab crashes. Turned on normal mode without extension or hardware acceleration and got a crash. What is the difference there?

Going to try new profile I guess. Created one, turned off acceleration from the beginning, no extensions, changed few cosmetic settings like remembering the session etc.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or it could be Hardware Acceleration. How to disable Hardware Acceleration {web link}

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All Of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

As I said, I turned off Safe mode, used no extensions or hardware acceleration and got those two crashes. I am currently trying clean profile with the same settings (no hw accel/no extensions).

The only two plugins there are currently are the ones Firefox installs by default:

OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.

Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc.

You are contradicting yourself. Are those crashes from safe mode?

I just checked. The last two crashes you posted show: SafeMode 0 meaning not in save mode.

Yes, whole day before that in safe mode no crashes, then today I turned on normal mode, no extensions, no acceleration, instantly two crashes. Made clean profile, so far so good.

Crashed again on a clean profile. At this point I don't even know what to do, uninstall and reinstall maybe.

As a test, Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history

Firefox Private Browsing is great for viewing websites without saving things like cookies, temp files, and a history of the pages you visit.
