I have made a HTML file and have it on my computer's hard drive in a sub-folder of My Documents (windows 10). The page doesn't open. I have no idea why.

Oh My!!! I feel so stupid. I left out <body> at the biginning. I had at the end, but "save page as" left that important part out at the beginning. I am sorry to have wasted your time. But it was encouraging enough to make me dig a little deeper. lol

What method are you using to open it? For example:

  • If .html files open in Firefox automatically (because Firefox is your default browser), double-clicking the file
  • Dragging the file on top of an existing tab so Firefox loads the file in place of the current page
  • Using Open File... from the menu (or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+O)
  • Some other method?

And then when you try to load it, what happens, for example, is the page blank, or is there an error message?

Hi! Thank you for your help. I tried opening this file using all 3 methods mentioned by you. These same methods work in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox.

The page opens in Firefox, but its just a blank, white page

This is a screen shot of what happens when attempting to open in Firefox.

No errors, but when I click on the little exclamation mark, left of the URL address, you can see it prompts me with 2 messages about the file location on my computer and "special permissions" and I have no idea what that is about.

The messages on the drop-down panel do not identify a problem.

If you use Select All in the page (Ctrl+a), does Firefox highlight anything?

If you view the source of the page (Ctrl+u), does Firefox apply syntax coloring? If so, does anything seem off, like everything treated as a comment (green italic text)?

nothing high lights with ctrl+a and the source text is colored black and blue maybe some pink.

I think my point is that it works in other browsers, but not firefox.

Can you post a screenshot that shows the page source (e.g. load the page with the view-source: prefix) if this page doesn't have personal information?
