firefox.exe 65.0.2 always crashes on youtube

Windows 8.1, 8gb ram, core i5 3ghz

The browser window stays open. Multiple crash messages for firefox.exe upon loading a youtube video. Tried reinstalling. Tried rolling back to 65.0.1, tried a fresh new install, and tried updating flash player. The same exact error happens no matter what I try to fix it. Nothing else was installed and no system changes occurred, according to the computer's user.

Loaded up Firefox 65.0.2 on a different, identically setup computer, and it instantly works right on the same exact page that was causing it to crash on the other.

Windows System malware?

Sure could use help on this problem, which has surfaced for no apparent reason, unless it is happening deliberately through some kind of outside manipulation by a 3rd party.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thank you for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Thank you, I will add crash information later when I have access to the PC again.

The PC that is experiencing this problem previously worked exactly right with Firefox 65.0.2 on all websites including youtube.

The error has only surfaced within the past 2-3 days, and coincides with the arrival of guests to the location at which the PC resides.

I would like to find security software that is designed to sequentially track every single change that is made to a Windows PC, so that any future problems can be directly identified without question.

I think I might be having the same issue. Seems every time when I open new tabs on youtube whether if it's in private browsing or regular, it would have some trouble loading. Firefox would freeze up for like 15-20 seconds before returning back to normal.

The problem involves a popup message box stating that firefox.exe has crashed, and asking to send information to microsoft.

It happens instantly upon the youtube page loading the video.

There's no freezing, it is a rapid sequence of popup yes - no question boxes.

Before the first question message box can be clicked, there is another one appearing behind it, again for firefox.exe

fo13vr, when your firefox got slow momentarily it could be its processes drained all the memory out of your computer and you should check firefox performance settings, or the heatsink on your main processor needs to be recoated in the metallic kind of thermal cpu grease compound. Overheating of normal 90+watt microchip would cause the behavior you have mentioned.

asking to send information to microsoft

Firefox crash reports are sent to the Mozilla servers.

Both of you:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

The problem still happens with a brand new fresh install of Firefox Portable in a brand new directory, so after I get the crash data it will be nice to refresh windows back together again.

Well, my problem is solved.

After 10 hours of diagnosing, scanning, rescanning, downloading windows updates, restarting, restoring from a windows backup image, and inadvertent loss of user documents among other things,

I have found the reason for the problem, and "bullcrap" would be a concise description.

Mozilla, it is very disappointing to have the new release Firefox background crash repeatedly like there is something wrong with the computer System, on any website. It took a lot of patience to fix a problem that is totally because of you.

the-edmeister, FredMcD, There were no crash reports listed on about:crashes because it was totally empty. There was nothing there at all except a message saying it was empty.

The info I was able to gather is shown in the attached image.

So, on to the solution.

Set the experimental field: media.av1.enabled to FALSE

If you don't feel like playing around, maybe just get a different browser that is already made to work right.

Find a serious note in here somewhere.

That was very good work. Well done. Please flag your https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1252747#answer-1204689 post as Solved Problem so others will know.

I've never had to restore this version of windows from a backup with the Create a system image tool in Windows 8.1 and then pressed restart holding shift to get to the restore backup image tool after backing up and .zip isolating firefox so the history would be intact, and then found out that the documents folder from three months ago would not be restored but

to replace whatever data already resides there instead of adding to the current files.

It almost Gives me a mind sickness to state that the Windows definitely does not have any malware, viruses or other unpleasant things residing on it, and that the fastest internet browser on it used to work, and now it Works Again.
