I just want to suggest you rename the 'refresh firefox' function to something a bit clearer.

It's a great idea, but a really stupid name. We've all been conditioned to think 'refresh' online just means, reload. I thought it would just recheck my firefox to ensure it was the latest version, and probably just reinstall itself.

Yes, I know I should have read more into it before, but it really shouldn't be so vague to begin with. Just a personal gripe, cause I lost all my bookmarks and my last backup was like a year ago... sigh...

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

Hmm this may be the first time I have seen somebody thinking this was for checking for Firefox updates.

Normally the complaint I see are people may mistakenly assume it does things like dusting and spring cleaning while still keeping everything intact.

There is supposed to be a warning dialog, but we are where we are...

Refresh moves your old profile folder with your useful data to your desktop, inside a folder named Old Firefox Data. Can you find that? Inside, there should be a folder with a partially random name, for example:

a1b23cd4.default

And inside that folder, one named bookmarkbackups from which you can restore your bookmarks.

To do that, call up the Restore feature --

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

-- and at the bottom of the menu, click Choose file. Then point Firefox to the files in bookmarkbackups in the Old Firefox Data folder.

Success?
