why When I open a pdf with Nitro pdf, ff opens a blank page as well?,

Again, after latest update (haha) the same thing is happening AGAIN. I have followed ALL of the troubleshooting suggestions and NONE are helpful. I continue to get the blank page.

It did stop and I couldn't tell you why the second time. But since this is regularly recurring, this must be a bug.

Hello kaylaartist,

As you say that this is happening again - I can only assume that it stopped happening at one point. Can you tell us when that was, as you didn't seem to have found a solution in this thread :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1203966

I'm asking, so you won't get the same suggestions again .....

As I stated that I had done all the troubleshooting, that means I already did what was here. However, this solution NO LONGER applies. I do not have any kind of tab extension at all. And I have tried everything else. If they had worked I would not be contacting you again.

In the thread I mentioned ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1203966 ) there was no solution - hence my question ....

The solution in your earlier thread ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1169261 ) obviously doesn't apply, as Tab Mix Plus is no longer supported.

I only assumed that at one point the problem no longer ocurred, as you say that it happens again - I must have misconstrued (my apologies).

I sure hope that somebody will come up with the perfect solution for you this time .....

Is there some change to be made in about:config so that going to either download/open a pdf or clicking to print does NOT open a blank tab?

kaylaartist said

Thanks...

Aww, I sure wish I could have really helped you .....

I didn't think that there would be such a preference on the "about:config" page, but went to look for it anyway - couldn't find anything  :(

I noticed that you marked my post as Chosen Solution, but as I didn't really solve anything : feel free to remove that mark (you can do so by clicking the "Undo" botton to the right of that post).

Normally, I see this behavior:

(1) When I click a download link and the site launches a new window/tab, Firefox will automatically close that new blank window/tab when displaying the Open/Save dialog.

(2) When I force a download link to a new tab myself, for example, by middle-clicking or Ctrl+clicking the link, Firefox will NOT close the new blank tab automatically when the download dialog appears.

It has been like that for as long as I can remember.

P.S. I never used any add-ons which would force links into new tabs for me, so I don't know if they behave more like the first case or the second case.

I have no clue what you are referring to as this bears no relation to my problem. I do not use any add ons to affect the behavior of my tabs.

Ignore the P.S. Does the other part match your experience?

Actually, now mine seems different today, too. What happened? Did you file a bug report?

Nope. Doesn't match my experience and I did file a bug report

Thanks, found it, added my 2 cents for now.

Okay, the reason I see this behavior in my Firefox is that I have an add-on (user script in Violentmonkey) which modifies links to other sites with this:

rel="noopener noreferrer"

Either of those will prevent Firefox from closing the blank tab. I cannot trigger the problem once I turn that off.

What site are you opening the PDFs from? I wonder whether they use anything like that on their links.

Nitro PDF

I was expecting an answer more like Facebook, Google, etc. The question is whether the links you are clicking contain something like this in their code:

rel="noopener"

or

rel="noreferrer"

Because it doesn't matter from what website.

My last thinking about this was in the demo document:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/downbug.html

With the "No rel" links, Firefox closes the blank tab for me. With the other links, the blank tab stays open.

Is that how yours behaves as well?

No, it does not. And for years, no other page opened AT ALL, just the Nitro pdf.
