we're having trouble finding that site

Since updating to Firefox 58.0.2 I am constantly getting a blank website with 'we're having trouble finding that site. Going back then trying again then opens the site. Chrome and Internet Explorer open the sites first time without problem, so there is an issue with timing in Firefox, probably due to the slooooow operation of it compared to the other two sites. How can I set a timing parameter to stop Firefox from defaulting to this now annoying page straight away, without waiting for it to check itself and go to the website immediately. I am assuming that the first time something downloads but Firefox has not been setup properly to read the download within its own delayed time, and the next time the download is available so the website opens. Having to check everything twice makes browsing in Firefox an even slower experience that before. It appears each update is slower than the last! And yes, I have tried completely uninstalling all previous versions and only installing this version. Another Firefox waste of time.

Please provide public link(s) (no password) that we can check out. No Personal Information Please !

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Of course it still does it in safe mode! If Firefox needs other updates etc. then why doesn't it install them as part of the update? It has completely screwed up Roboform, and apparently other functions as well. Why is it that software updates are always the fault of others and not the company responsible for making sure they wok with a limited downtime? I'll try the above additional updates missing from the Firefox install, but this does not explain why they work in Internet Explorer and Chrome. Perhaps they can deal with the issues that Firefox don't appear to want to.

I have adobe flash installed and running the latest update. I do not want to uninstall it just for Firefox as Internet Explorer and Chrome appear to run ok with this version. In any case, Firefox advises this is not installed. Ironically the link provided is one that demonstrates this problem! Also, why would this give me the problem? As it is ONLY Firefox that has the problem, please provide Firefox solutions and not blame working third party software.

Hello AnnieBody, Directions are given for a reason as what works in one thing does not mean it works in another as after all it is a computer program.

When you posted this question it showed you were running Flash ver 28.00 which you can check what version you are running in your Control Panel Flash Applet. If still running ver 28.00 : Flash Player Version: 29.0.0.140 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

Of course it still does it in safe mode!

We would know this only when you would let us know so that we can try other things. As In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

This gives as more information.

Please supply the URL or URL's you are having issues with please.

When I looked for an update in the Adobe flash icon in control panel, it advised 29.0.0.140 was the latest version: it is set to automatically install updates. Following your link I found version 29.0.0.140 and have uninstalled the previous updated install and started again using this version. Problem still exists: https://support.cyberghostvpn.com/hc/en-us loads at second attempt.

Since updating to Firefox 58.0.2 I am constantly getting a blank website with 'we're having trouble finding that site.

Maybe if you'd update to the latest Firefox version, which is 59.0.2  ?

I am reluctant to update Firefox as each time I I find something else does not work and I have to pay for updated software I do not need. Unless Firefox specify the update will solve this issue, I see no need for having to keep wasting my time and money playing devil's advocate for Firefox, just so they can feel good about themselves. Also, I find your comment interesting, as I have previously complained in this forum about Firefox forcing updates even when you have specifically requested not to. Perhaps they are finally listening?

Would you mind telling us what updated software you have to pay for in relation to Firefox updates  ? (Firefox doesn't charge you for anything, as it is completely free)

Upgrading Roboform to be compliant with your latest changes means a new license at cost. If you allowed me to retain my previous version that did my very best to not update (why would I it was fully working) then this would not have been an issue. Firefox may be free, but the software that works with it is not. You have forced an additional cost upon me due to customer ignorance. I am still waiting for a reason as to why Firefox cannot access some websites first time, but others can.

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.
