Was there any kind of problem around that time?

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

I had passwords then I restarted FF to add update to new version and then they were gone:

key4.db - This file stores your key database for your passwords. To transfer saved passwords, you must copy this file along with the following file. logins.json - Saved passwords.

according the FF local folder those 2 files are 88kb and 288kb...so they data is there but its not showing in the browser under save passwords

Do you have a key3.db file and possibly a logins.json.corrupt file?

(no old firefox in answer to first post)

key 3 is 16kb

suggestions. reinstall older verion then upgrade again? new version over top?

If you have key3.db and the matching logins.json then something might have gone wrong with the migration from key3.db to key4.db (SQLite) and you can try again by removing key4.db.

logins json (dated this morning @ 9) 85kb key3.db 16kb key4.db 288

just remove db4 or reinstall after or what exactly?

key3 dated jan 3rd key 4 dated same time as logins ie this morning ~

Remove the current key4.db file. This will cause Firefox to create a new file.

Thankyou my passwords are back now (or at least i can see them in security view; not checked all.

Ok.

It seems when I restart FF I lose my pws again. deleting the db4 each time clears the problem. Any suggestions why or whats corrupting the db4 or how to prevent it?

I also have a strange issue with the security authority certificates where the add/edit bit has gone awol? Linked or unrelated?

I called for more help.

On the password issue, are you using any password add-ons or programs? Are you using sync?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Go to one or two safe sites, then Close Firefox. Wait about 20 seconds for Firefox to close, then re-open it. Is the problem still there?
