This sounds Dostoevskian, but read on. This is informational for those who are wary and abused Firefox users.

It's Free - Firefox. That means you are on your own to get it going and keep it going. Mozilla WILL NOT HELP YOU or provide any competent tech support. You'll be referred to the forums where, many times, you will be run in circles and nonplussed.

This version I have, will not upgrade. 1. Cannot install addon - upgrade to current version 2. Go to upgrade download page. 3. Already at current version. 4. Try to download most recent version. 5. Already at current version.

All I wanted to do was keep Blur current. No dice. Went like this: 1. Cannot install addon - upgrade to current version 2. Go to upgrade download page. 3. Already at current version. 4. Try to download most recent version. 5. Already at current version.

Fortunately, the excellent tech support techs at Abine/Blur took pity and assisted me. So much so, I felt guilty for not contributing and contributed - to Abine, not Mozilla. So I have an older version of Firefox running just fine. With addons.

Upgrade nags are too intrusive and are accompanied by lies as to why you must upgrade. What they are really hoping for, is to scare you into upgrading to a PAID version of Firefox. You needn't upgrade at all, as a matter of fact, if you are willing to do a little digging and nagging yourself.

Forget tech support. There is none. Nada. Doesn't exist. You'll be on your own in the forums looking for answers. Mozilla claims to have tech support ? It's a lie - and a free-for-all.

Addons have no support. The developers all hide because there are issues with all the addons and the developers are sick and tired of hearing from us Little People. Period. End of Story. DO NOT send addon developers money ! It begets you NOTHING.

The forums, for Mozilla, are 'Free'. Staffed by volunteers who save Mozilla millions of dollars a year in staffing costs. How anyone can get suckered in such a situation is beyond me. What you get in those forums may or may not be true, may or may not work. Take your chances. It seems to be an ego-trip for the "support ENGINEERS", so take your chances. Most times you lose...

Mozilla's relationship(s) with Privacy Busters and Data Miners is murky at best. It will only get more incestuous than it already is. Most other sites have totally prostituted your personal information for pennies. That's all your private life is worth to the data miners - pennies. They buy and sell profiles like yours by the millions. For a few cents each. Many such places will include your credit card number, expiration date and security code - for a few more pennies...

DO NOT give your primary Email address to Mozilla, or any other Free software provider. Make up an Email address for 'throwaway' uses. I have Email accounts associated with Email addresses I provide to places like Mozilla. SPAM Tsunami. Flood. Totally overwhelmed. Today, 963 Spams in 24 hours - to my Spam Trap Email account. That address was only ever given to sites that merely wanted to have it for "informational purposes" and "notifications". Problem is, I give one Email address per site that just HAS to have one or you can't surf. No Emails from that site ! BUT a flood of Spam from 3rd parties ! AND I know EXACTLY where they got my Email address. Handy, huh ?

Terms of service disclosures protect you from UTTERLY NOTHING !!! Again, Terms of service disclosures protect you from UTTERLY NOTHING !!! Used to be a merchant would protect your privacy because you could go elsewhere. Nowadays they're just selling everything you disclose. How do you think a concise history of your auto's maintenance ever made it to Carfax, even though you used 16 different shops ? At shops like that, I simply write in large letters across the service contract, "No disclosure of personal info. Rights waived by service provider." That means I haul their asses into court for a civil action -- and win -- if they sell my info. If the shop accepts the work after you wrote that across the service contract, it is a legally binding contract. NOT ONE shop ever refused to fix my car ! How do I know who it was who snitched out my personal info ? My personal information had unique identifiers for whom I disclosed it to. The unique identifiers are easy to make up... Jr., Sr, III, etc...

No response solicited...

The Windows Vista platform is no longer supported by current Firefox releases, so you will have to stay with the Firefox 52.x.0 ESR versions.

Current Firefox releases require Windows 7 and later, so maybe update your no longer supported OS. Users on Windows XP and Vista have been moved to the Firefox ESR version.

If you have a valid question the you can create a new thread and ask this question and we will do our best to answer it. Note that the most people on this forum are volunteers and answer questions because they want to help people. You can do the same if you are experienced in some areas and you see a specific question and you know the answer.

"If you have a valid question the you can create a new thread and ask this question and we will do our best to answer it."

I have valid comments and have posted them, so yes, I have valid input,

Like I do on Yelp, the comments are mercenary and for thew consumption of the unwary.

Any valid ripostes to my post ?

It is understandable for paid for products to have support outside of forums, newsgroups and IRC because by receiving money for the products they can have the resources for call centres to do one on one support by chat and by phone.

Mozilla has never claimed to have one on one tech support. There was a short lived chat system in place some years ago but that was more by volunteers. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/avoid-and-report-mozilla-tech-support-scams

There is NO paid for versions of Firefox and never will be if Mozilla can help it. Any places that charges for Firefox versions is a scam and not related to Mozilla.

Firefox is a free open source product so yes Mozilla cannot really afford the resources that would be needed to have call centres for one on one support by phone, chat and or email especially since it would be for well free. Since Firefox is open source people can download and build Firefox which is why there have been some third-party options over the years.

Updates for Firefox Releases are for security and stability fixes and not for just because they can. https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox/ https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

Oh there are some support options for desktop Firefox besides here at https://support.mozilla.org/

There is on IRC irc.mozilla.org with channels like #sumo #firefox #mozillazine https://wiki.mozilla.org/IRC Mozilla newsgroups - https://www.mozilla.org/about/forums/

And the popular independent http://forums.mozillazine.org which has existed since Nov 4, 2002.

The vast majority of Extensions to be specific (as Addons is a general term) that are hosted at addons.mozilla.org are made by a third-party author or sometimes a company. Many of them have made the extension for themselves and decided to share it to the world. They do this on their own time and costs so sometimes they may not have ability to support everyday. Some authors do do some support like with their extension support threads on forums.mozillazine.org

and to others, no I am not back to this forum.

Hi

With the majority of this being off topic and the core issue (that I can identify) having been answered, I am locking this thread.
