After large reform of central government operations in Finland, approximately 62,000 civil servants use Kieku for producing and accessing financial and HR administration data. However, the software does not support Firefox. Is there something we can do ?

Sincerely, a civil servant.

It is up tu the Government to decide what software is used on its private computers and computer network.

Presumably all those departments will also have public websites on which they provide information to the public and those will be accessible by the browser of your choice from your own internet connected device.

You will still be able to use Firefox.

Your Government may have decided you are not normally to be allowed to have Firefox on a an official Government owned device but I have no idea if that is the case or not.

Use of firefox is allowed; personally I use it both in linux and windows to get similar user experience in both.

More precisely, what does not work are some drop down menus, which we would need in the intranet for example to report our sick leave or suggest preferred dates for vacation.

There are potentially many reasons for drop-down menus not to respond when clicked, or for items on drop-down menus not to respond when clicked. Someone internally could debug that if they were motivated, but assuming there's no public access to the relevant pages, it would be difficult to get assistance on a forum like this one.

Since you mentioned dates, do other browsers show a calendar-style picker next to a blank field and Firefox doesn't? Sites that have adopted the new HTML5 <input type="date"> controls may not work correctly in Firefox. Firefox will show a blank text-style field to type the date, but sites may restrict manual entry, or a support script to fill in the calendar feature on browsers that haven't yet implemented <input type="date"> may be failing for some reason. There may be a way to override that using an add-on, but since it's a work site in a government office, I'm not going to suggest going down that road unless absolutely necessary.

Thank you for helpful and constructive attitude.

There is a menu, which shows a default value (Select type of absence). Clicking that opens a list of options, you should choose one, but with firefox, none of them can be selected and the default value remains.

Hey, I managed this to work in Linux / Firefox ! I thought it did not work in Windows first, though, but it may be so that I scrolled with mouse, not with cursor keys.

Thank you !!
