how to globally stop email notifications in the forum?

Hi Friends, I'm reposting about this, because it's still an issue, 2.5 years later after my first post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/985023 (which has been archived, and I can't post in it anymore).

I actually never read the bug report back then, because I assumed the developers would fix such an obvious problem. But if I read it correctly now, they decided not to fix it, because they couldn't decide how to fix it???

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But all I can do is report that I still have to unsubscribe to each new thread individually, despite having the options already disabled, and despite now having moved on from Windows 7 (which I was using when I posted originally) to Windows 10 now. Although I realize it's a Firefox problem and not a Windows problem. It's still a 2.5 + years old problem.

Also, I didn't reply to the bug report, because I don't want to register an account, when I have no other reason to post messages in the bug tracker.

Could someone please do whatever is needed, to make the bug active again (re-open it, or re-post it, or whatever)? Maybe some developer will be more interested in it now?

Thank you very much  :-)

Ok, thanks  :-)

I was a combination of 2 replies which provided the answer I needed. I don't see any numbers on the replies, so it's not very convenient to say which ones they were.

It was reply by james, and the last reply of jscher2000.

I hope this choosing best answer is not part of the new forum  :-)

I'll mark this as the best answer, and then people can read which ones, by reading this message.

A workaround is this; Some e-mail providers have the option to sort incoming mail. Contact your e-mail provider for help.

Just send those unwanted notifications to the junk folder, or trash.

Oh, thank you FredMcD  :-)

Ironically, I also just posted a message asking for Thunderbird support, since I'm switching over from using Windows mail programs in the past. (The deplorable new Windows 10 has no full-featuared email program.)

That would work, up until some day when I do want to get a notification. It seems it would be much better if it would work properly.

Mozilla is looking migrate from the current support.mozilla.org Kitsune forum and KB software (that is some eight years old) as they are migrating to a new Lithium support platform and will still be on support.mozilla.org

So Mozilla is not really ding work on Kitsune now.

Hi brynn2, did you uncheck this in Settings (https://support.mozilla.org/users/settings):

"Watch Question threads I comment in"

It's a little confusing, but this section we're posting in now is called Questions, while Forum refers to a different section of the site. You could try before your next post.

Everything is unchecked, except for the last one, about sending email for private messages.

How far away is the switch to a new forum software?

With the "questions" box unchecked, you should not be subscribed to email updates when making new posts. The old subscriptions still need to be terminated on a thread by thread basis (next to the question, Question Tools > Stop Email Updates).

There probably will be a change in the forum software toward the end of the year.

As far as I know, all forums want you to nominate one solution so that the next person to search for the problem will know what was useful to you. We also have the "Helpful" buttons for posts that were useful but not "the answer."
