T-bird posts emails to my gmail on OSX as received by "Me". Apple MAIL on my iPad incorrectly posts the first contact name. Apple did not bite at this one!

iMac and iPad OS's are both up to date. Apparently T-bird changes the "received by" contact from the full gmail contact name to "Me" in the gmail cloud account. When my iPad accesses the gmail cloud through Apple MAIL, it apparently does not know what "Me" means. I have tried using the GMAIL app on the iPad and found it most confusing, so I do not know if it has the same bug.

Alternative: If you add your name and email address as a contact to the address book and put a prefered name in the 'Display Name' field, then it should use that name instead.

But you would need to reselect the Options > Display > Advanced tab .. 'Show only display name for people in my address book'.

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options > Display > Advanced tab,

Uncheck 'Show only display name for people in my address book'.

Thanks for the lesson. This step had no immediate effect, but I am only looking at past messages. I will update as soon as I see if a new message is correct.

(Two days later..) New messages are now posted on the iMac as received by my preferred email name instead of "Me". However, the iPad version of the same message still incorrectly posts the alphabetical first name in my address book. This is now pretty clearly an Apple MAIL problem. Another contributor has recommended a contact list update that I will try on the iPad.
