Can't send or receive emails due to the connection timing out.

I'm running Thunderbird version 38.5.1, and currently can't send ore receive emails from my hotmail account or either of my two gmail accounts.

When I try to send a message, I get this error message: "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.googlemail.com timed out. Try again."

After I hit "Get Messages," the following notification pops up: "Connection to server ________@gmail.com timed out."

Saving an unfinished email to drafts fails, bringing up this error message: "There was an error saving the message to Drafts. Retry?"

I noticed the problem a couple of days ago, and today a notification came up asking to compact folders. I've allowed this, and repeated it after deleting quite a lot of spam. The saved passwords are all correct, and the Server Settings and Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings are all set up according to the Mozilla guides. I'm running Norton Internet Security, version 22.5.5.15. However, disabling Smart Firewall and Auto-Protect doesn't solve the problem.

Please let me know if I can provide any more details. Thanks!
