Mozilla Firefox has started throwing up the following error for almost every website I usually access!

The error:

Secure Connection Failed

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.

I am using a Lenovo z580 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium with Firefox 41.0.2 installed. I have checked the proxy settings, and they are the same in Firefox as in the other browsers (IE and Chrome). I have checked the system time settings, and there is no issue there.

I am unable to upload images for some reason, so I have uploaded the images (of error messages for different websites at http://s912.photobucket.com/user/sushd/library/Firefox

Any assistance is appreciated.

TIA

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

If you can't inspect the certificate via "I Understand the Risks" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website.

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then you can attach a screenshot that shows the certificate viewer.

Unfortunately, yes.

I get the following: No information available. Unable to obtain identification status for this site.

And the "view" button remains disabled.

Don't get this option on the "error page". It only shows the error message and the two options: "try again" and "report this error".

You should only type or paste the domain part and not path information in the location field;

Same status as before.

Hadn't downloaded anything for ages ... and had checked the system with KAV, Defender, Spybot and Malwarebytes before posting and none of them flagged up anything, so I was under the impression that all was good on that front!

Adwcleaner and superantispyware did the trick.

Thanks cor-el !!!
