As test, disable your protection program.

i've already tried that and i wrote that on the first post. i disabled the shields and i tested to download something, and it hang at the end

What security software do you have?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite ??db file (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

no hope. it still freezes even when i save the bookmarks backup on my desktop. :'(

just tried that, when the files reaches the end the browser stops downloading it and after a few seconds it hangs. it even froze during 50% of the downloading as i was testing it.

i even renamed the profile folder and started with a fresh one. what could possible interfere with the downloading the moment the AV wasn't working during safe mode.

with further investigation on the issue i found that when downloading a exe but changing the save location by selecting a folder on the dialog, even chrome will hang.

the browsers won't always hang when i set the option "don't ask where to save" and they save automatically on a specified folder.

edit: i went to options to change the save location of downloads. upon selecting the folder and closing the dialog window, the browser froze.

i think i'm going to format and reinstall again. :(

i appreciate it but i restored a complete image i did the day before the issue appeared. if it is not random and my OS installation has some kind of issue it will happen again. i will keep the thread updated.
