Cannot restore Thunderbird Profiles or Address Book on Mac OS 10.6.8

My old laptop was running slow for some reason I couldn't find so I took it into the Apple Store thinking they could run hardware scans I didn't have, etc. Well, the Genius (and I'm using the term very sarcastically) decided I needed to do a full restore because he couldn't find a reason hardware wise. Ever since then I cannot get Thunderbird back. I have set up new profiles, went into Terminal as suggested in the Help, tried importing from TimeMachine, etc.I cannot get my Address Book back either. It shows a whopping 3 contacts instead of contacts dating back from 2007. I see 6 address books on my backup, but of course I can't import those as they are .mab files which isn't an option. I've set up MacMail for now (shudder) so I can access my e-mail, and have all but a couple of folders for some reason, but I'd really like everything back in Thunderbird if possible...not to mention all of my contact information back!!

I went to another Apple Store for assistance and found out there was a permissions issue with Time Machine which was preventing things from being moved back over. The solution was to compress the files into a .zip file on my external drive and then move them over to my laptop. The address book required this as well.
