One of the proposed solutions in that thread involves resetting the TCP/IP stack in Windows. In another thread about this reset, several users have posted their logs which have lined indicating "access denied" so you probably need to run cmd.exe as Administrator to overcome that if it happens to you:

There are numerous articles on this for earlier versions of Windows, but it isn't so well documented for Windows 10 yet. Here are some articles for reference:

I thought Windows 10 used Edge as its default browser.

Do I understand correctly; from what you say; that you had Chrome & Firefox installed and working before the upgrade. You are talking about just upgrading from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10 on the same machine ? Not moving to a new computer.

What do you mean by do not work ? Does Firefox open up ok ? What error messages do you get ? Please copy the error messages or take a screenshot

P.S. You do appear to be posting using Edge. The forum software picks up your browser User Agent String as:

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/42.0.2311.135 Safari/537.36 Edge/12.10240

You did not ask to make Firefox your default browser, but if that is what you are trying to do have a look at

I am not using a new computer, it is a free upgrade from 7 to 10. Yes, both program were working before the upgrade.

By not working, i meant it open fine but when I type in the website address, it would not go anywhere, it just gives me an error message said that the website is removed and suggest I contact the website admin.

I use edge to post because that is the only thing working correctly right now.

"Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.cnn.com.

Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

And before you asked, I checked my internet, and I checked my antivirus program, firefox has permission to access the web.

You probably saw these articles when you were posting, but just in case this is a security software issue: Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can.

No, it is not. Just to be sure, I try everything on the list, nothing work.

I noticed your toolbar has a McAfee icon. Does Firefox work any differently with your McAfee add-on disabled?

You can individually disable extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can find and disable it on the right side.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any difference?

Alternately, you can test disabling ALL extension by trying Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any difference?

You said that you can still access the internet in IE (Internet Explorer?) but not in Firefox or Chrome. Could you double-check .... Did you mean Edge works? Never mind. I see from "more system details" that you were using Edge to post and that you later wrote, "I use edge to post because that is the only thing working correctly right now". I edited your original post to clarify. (I understand that the new Microsoft Edge browser is made the default with the "Express" Windows 10 upgrade).

Have you tried setting Firefox as your default browser? See this mozilla blog post and How to change your default browser to Firefox on Windows for help with that.

I'm thinking that this is not a Firefox issue and that you may get better help on a Windows forum. I found these questions that are similar to yours:

  2. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/299357 - Windows XP through 8.1, says this will fix some registry keys

I note a MS engineer was promoting the second answer as a solution that is suitable for Windows 10 (link)

The second solution includes MS [Fix it] links. These are not noted as suitable for Widows 10. Presumably there is no chance the Windows 8.1, 8, 7 Fix it link will be usable on Windows 10.

The solution does include manual steps.

cmd reset works this time, not sure why it would not work yesterday....anyway thank you everyone for your help

Tried everything had to abandon Firefox after many years...........spent too much time trying to solve this problem now using Chrome,,datum.................thanks for all answers ,bye.

Hi, datum100. You need to ask a new question if you need help with Firefox (see Mozilla Support rules and guidelines). I'll close this thread since the original question by amy533 has been answered she reported it solved.
