Will the Icelandic Dictionary for Thunderbird 38 (and onwards) be available in the future?

After updating Thunderbird recently, the spell check does not work any more, and a message indicating that the Icelandic Dictionary is nor available for Thunderbird 38.1.0. The question therefore is whether support for this has ended for good, or will be continued in due course.

If support has been cancelled, what is the easiest path to downgrade to an earlier version of Thunderbird, that still has a functional Icelandic Dictionary?
