Having trouble registering on the TB forum. I am trying to change from Outlook.com to TB. I would like an identity something like: jpsdjsfl@thunderbird.com But I keep on running into this program I know nothing about that wants to charge me for a different identity. (gandi.net) So how can I create this identity on TB and do away with Outlook.com?

Thunderbird doesn't offer or provide email accounts. It's an email client, not an email service. Specifically, it doesn't offer thunderbird.com email addresses.

You can use Thunderbird with your outlook.com account, or with accounts from yahoo, Gmail, gmx, your ISP or your webhost or other email service providers.

Gandi is a third-party email service provider who would be delighted to sell you an email account, along with a personalised domain.

Thank you very much for taking your time to help me. The TB setup is quite difficult and I will be months getting used to it. My goal is to completely get rid of Outlook.com before Microsoft forces me to go somewhere I don't want to be. So if I can't have an email address such as: some@thunderbird.com what can I have?

Also I was able to send a message and the recipient had this in the message: ?5?2?4?2?0?1?5. What have I done to cause this?

Here is the part you do not get. Thunderbird is not an email provider. Email providers issue email addresses. Pick any provider that you wish.

Thunderbird is email client software. Client software runs on YOUR computer and helps you manage your email account that you got from a provider.

You might want to research the difference between client software and email providers.

So if Thunderbird is not an email provider, then what happens when Microsoft pulls the plug on "Outlook .com"? I'll be up a well known estuary without a paddle. You know they will, as soon as Windows 10 comes out.

If Outlook email goes away then you will not have an Outlook address anymore. This has NOTHING to do with Thunderbird. Gmail, Yahoo These are two examples of free email. Microsoft is not the end of the world.
