How to open Customize Firefox and Add-Ons Manager in floating panes instead of tabs?

Not too long ago, the Customize and Add-Ons dialog opened in proper floating panes. This was attractive, convenient, and well-designed. But ever since the Mozilla team went insane/started doing drugs/suffered severe brain damage/all of the above, we've been forced to open them in tabs instead, despite this being highly inconvenient, ugly as sin, and just a bad idea overall. Like many users of this program, I am deeply unhappy with these poor decisions would like to restore them to the way they used to be.

Though no one has ever made an add-on to repair the Customize pane, there was once one called the Add-Ons Manager Dialog Returns. Sadly, this add-on no longer seems to function and the user who created it has yet to repair it, so I am forced to seek out other options.

In the latest update, Firefox 38, Mozilla decided to make the same mistakes with the Options pane that they'd previously made with the Customize and Add-Ons pane, but I was delighted to learn that one can easily fix what the dev team broke with a simple toggle to one of the about:config options. This discovery gave me a glimmer of hope that perhaps similar fixes were available for the Customize and Add-Ons panes. Unfortunately, I'm not fluent in "about:config" and cannot determine the purpose of any given option in config mode without being told, so I am unable to locate these fixes or even determine if they exist. Does anyone here know? And if not, does anyone know how to find out?
