Latest firefox update has turned browser to slow and laggy

Hi,

I had an automatic update install to firefox around 2 weeks ago. Since then it has gone from being the best and fastest browser on my computer to the slowest.

Even just typing this message there is a massive lag between me typing and it appearing on screen. Prior to the update it used to run perfectly. If I try and clear the search bar to type in a new address it can take 5 - 10 seconds or won't do it at all so I end up typing into what's already there! Basically every action I take with keyboard or mouse has a delay attached to it.

I have so far tried to reset Firefox option which has made no difference.

Am running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 with 4 GB of RAM. Over half of hard drive space remaining.Chrome which I also have on my PC is running perfectly normal. If possibly I'd like to carry on using firefox! :-)

Thanks for any help.

ok, thanks martin. nothing in particular is coming to mind there. however two things you could try is to 1. update your graphics driver: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%207%20-%2064 and 2. your plugins: https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/

please report if this makes any difference.

Could someone explain to an average user how to set : layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false and back to true again if this does not clear the problem?

Enter "about:config" in the Firefox URL bar and press enter. Enter "layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled" in the search field. Below you will see the config entry, make a doubleclick on this entry, the value should be changed. Restart Firefox.

I had no problem with Firefox for the past 2 years on my Windows 7, 64 bit. I got some automatic updates e 2 days ago, and it said one, could not be installed. It referenced microsoft saying it could not be downloaded, XPCom.

And after the Firefox u[dates, I could not even open Firefox. I decided to do a system restore to 3 days prior.. and after that, I could open Firefox, but it is running so slow, and half the time does not recognize my mouse.. and jumps emails, and is so unstable.. I wish now I never got the updates..

So now what do I do.. My old firefox was running so good and so fast. I would prefer to reinstall that, and not update it..

This is a nightmare now.. and I have a few friends having the same experience as me, and waiting for a solution, to this, that I get from you.. Looking forward to some suggestions, that fixes this.. Thankyou, Cyrus

I cannot get on the web to search for anything.. since all these new automatic updates were done 2 wks ago.. if I do finally get on, it takes 15 mins, or I get this msg below copied and pasted on here:

Server not found

Firefox can't find the server

Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I just started having all this problem since the updates !

What do I do now ?

sigh,
