Can I copy data fom one instance of Thunderbird on same computer to another?
My old machine running Windows 7 (32bit) crashed. I removed the drive and put it in new machine which was already fully equipped with Windows 7 (64bit). I have therefore two instances on the same machine but am not sure how to transfer the data, contacts etc from the old drive to new. The same applies to my bookmarks in Firefox.

Firefox and Thunderbird both have a profile folder.
In windows 7 in the search box on the start menu type %appdata%
In the explorer windows that opens you will see a Mozilla and a Thunderbird folder.
Mozilla is the root of Firefoxs profile and Thunderbird is obviously Thunderbird
Locate the same folders on your old drive (Windows hides appdata so you will need to change windows settings to show hidden and system files and folders)
Copy the old over the new to replace the new with the old. With Firefox and Thunderbird not running now when you open them you will use the old profile folders.
IF a total replacement of one with the other is not appropriate then you can have two profiles or manually merge the two (A bit messy sometimes)
Thank you for the quick response. Appdata has Thunderbird and Mozilla in both local and roaming. I have tried copying from old to new in both, and deleting installed profile in new but on opening Thunderbird (new) I get the data that was there (no change) and the new profile changes back and shows both as default. Any clues?
