What is the current value of the browser.newtab.url pref on the about:config page?

If that entry cursive and have a locked status or is it just user set?

Do you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder?

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

browser.newtab.url; > about:newtab < Change this.

(In my case my new tab is the "about:newtab" i don't know which is yours but its in the VALUE column. watch out)

If effects are not immediate, restart firefox!

That could be the work of an add-on, or mal-ware. Go to the :newtab setting. Click it and select Restore.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Still nothing changed , If anyone from the support team could contact me online and we try to find a solution . Please , If possible

Try using ADWCleaner, I used it before with success: (Suspicious link removed) Don't forget to remove any suspicious programs from your computer.

I used Microsoft Security Essentials to clean my PC , and still the new tab doesn't get changed !! Anyhelp ?

Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

If it is the http://www.trovi.com/?gd=&ctid=CT3321459&octid=EB_ORIGINAL_CTID&ISID=M57A5971A-5732-4308-B1B1-443DC51B315E&SearchSource=69&CUI=&SSPV=TBannersA_sp_ff&Lay=1&UM=5&UP=SPBA620008-E748-41B0-9921-D963B1D4A3FB thing,

Down at the bottom left-hand corner of the new tab window you will see the word restore. Click it. it will ask if you want to confirm. Click OK. then close out Firefox. Once you restart it it will be just like normal.
