I am using Windows XP PRO SP 3.0 32 bit I am trying to download an anti virus programme & keep on getting this message,

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I am logged on as Administrator, so what's it all mean? And, HOW CAN I FIX IT, please....???? Also, regarding the info below, (Add-on called Troubleshooter) How can a non-techie oldie user understand any of this info? Way beyond my understandings!

Hello, SlimSylv. We'll try to help you with your problem. As to the Troubleshooter add-on, it's job is to tell us about your system. No personal information is sent. Many issues can be solved very quickly because Troubleshooter shows us what is wrong.

About the anti-virus. What one are you using? Have you downloaded the install program or having trouble with the download. If the program was downloaded, how are you trying to start it?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that allows to download this software.
