Firefox is always displayed on an EXTENDED External Display. When I flipped a circuit breaker to work on a lightswitch, the EXTERNAL DISPLAY lost power, but the laptop which runs Firefox continued uninterrupted. When I restored power, Firefox had LOST ALL OPEN TABS - there were probably 50-75 tabs that opened every day when I started Firefox. Now I don't see a choice to ReOpen Last Session or anything else that looks like it would restore all the closed tabs. All the choices in Recent History seem to be what was browsed yesterday, day before, etc, but NOT all the tabs I routinely left parked OPEN every day which were open for months - the ones that opened every day when I opened Firefox. Are these tabs stored somewhere where I can recover them. I'm running firefox on an HP Laptop PC with Win11 Pro.

Please give me a simple step by step breakdown of how to solve this. I am AuDhD, and am trying to use digital technology to assist with my problems with executive function. Internet security requirements seem determined to stop this, by not consistently saving the data I expect them to, and then asking for it when it is too late for me to have realised I needed a 3rd party solution. I don't think I should need several products to achieve this very simple goal, but neither Google, Mozilla, Microsoft not Opera seem to agree This is now causing distress and taking a huge amount of time to try and resolve with companies that profit hugely from their customers, but refuse to talk to them directly.

Subject: Help recovering old Firefox Sync data using my Recovery Key

Hello Mozilla Support,

I’m trying to recover my old Firefox Sync data, especially my bookmarks and saved passwords.

I still have an Account Recovery Key that I saved on August 27, 2025. However, after signing in to my Mozilla account today, my account page shows “Account recovery key: Not set”, and syncing does not restore my old bookmarks or passwords.

I may have reset or changed my Mozilla account password today without using the old Recovery Key during the process.

Could you please confirm:

Is there any way to use my old Recovery Key now to recover the previously encrypted Firefox Sync data? Is the old Sync data still retained on Mozilla’s servers in any recoverable form? Is there any other recovery procedure available for bookmarks, passwords, or previous Sync data?

I still have access to the same Mozilla account and the original Recovery Key file. I will not send the Recovery Key itself unless there is an official secure procedure that requires it.

Today's update to Fx re-established the link between 'import' and my .json backup files of my extensive, organized bookmarks.

Firefox wanted to up date and I clicked okay. All my information still to be as it was but it didn't download when the computer came back up. How do I get everything back?

Update downloaded a few days ago, I closed Firefox to restart with updates and I can't get my previous session back. I even tried my OneTab to see if I could get older stuff back and it's lost that too!

The newest Fx update created its own dysfunctional 'profile', which omits ALL my extensive, carefully created bookmarks! I found my backup bookmarks .json file, but cannot find any way to get Fx to import that file. HOW can this be done? I have lost the entire afternoon with this stupid problem, when I have an enormous amount of important work to finish. Why does Fx not retain (e.g.) bookmarks when IT makes 'new' profiles ????????? This is the first complaint I've had about Fx. Otherwise it's been fabulous. K.R. Westphal

Acer Aspire 5 laptop. Windows 10. Auto turned off because I unplugged it to move places and it has a dodgy connection so if the screen physically moves a bit (like closing and opening movement) it just auto turns off - the screen accidentally moved a bit! I restarted it but only used it to connect to the scanner and save the scanned doc in Documents - I didn't use the internet so didn't realise the tabs didn't re-open as normal. Next day, I realised the many tabs and a few windows weren't opening in Mozilla Firefox. They were also off in Chrome but I could recover those - and it was just one window and a handful of tabs. I did a restore last session, which was dated as a couple of days previously, but the Firefox windows and tabs were still not there when I restarted. I certainly wasn't asked nor were there any warnings re saving tabs etc Firefox has just done an update (auto). I've looked around but see no solution. I don't have my laptop synced to any other device. I thought I had a back up / remember things for in case of crashes but it seems not. What do I do to recover all the tabs and windows? Thank you.

Unfortunately, the reply does NOT help. I have been through all the posted replies to missing bookmarks, and NONE help.

On my own, I found the bookmark backup files, and noticed that ONLY the newly imposed profile has any of those files. So I have access to those .json files, but my question remains: HOW to get that file back into Mz????? None of the posted replies, including your own, even pose this question. In short, after the newest Mz update, the 'restore' or 'import' bookmarks function(s) DO NOT WORK AT ALL!!!

I am sorry, but this problem appears to have been caused by Mz and its latest update; it's for Mz to fix, ASAP !!!

Perhaps I should mention, I'm far from computer- or OS-illiteracy, and am getting ever more fed up with software 'developers' who keep adding more bells and whistles which degrade functionality. I'm a long-standing touch-typist and am significantly faster than any OS's directory trees. Forget AI, I've no need of it.

the new Firefox was delivered without my permission. It is ugly in the green frame. The bookmark tool bar is nowhere to be seen. I cannot work without the old toolbar as No I have to find passwords and addresses for about 12 VERY IMPORTANT SITES I NEED EVERY DAY.

I keep running into an issue where my group of saved tabs disappears.

I will make several groups of tabs. When I right-click and press "save and close group," to shut down my laptop completely. There are many times when I return and try to access the saved group of tabs using the drop-down arrow at the top of the browser; all the saved groups will be gone.

Normally, I find them under "Recent Tab Groups". There have been many times when they are completely gone. Is there another way to find these groups of tabs or are they disappearing completely are a certain amount of time has passed?

I can't restore my tabs and groups from the last time, the last time i used to have a lot of tabs and groups of taps for my studies and the my mac wanted to do a u[date so it shut all apps running in inculdeing firefox and I can't recover them. even so it's not shown in the browsing histroy

Since your upgrade to the new version of 154, Having a huge problems. Couldn't log in to various accounts. The most problematic one is to getting in Costco, Etsy and Ebay. Etsy and Ebay has been fixed after a week but Costco one is not. We can't log in and if it allows somehow to login then can't check out. It sits there and comes back to the same page. Won't move forward to the payment page at all. To make it from bad, worse to worst - this morning my wife uninstalled the Firefox and installed it back. That's where all the problems started. Now we lost all the "bookmark tabs, login and everything". We are exhausted and very angry. There's no help line to pick up the phone and get a quick help. So please send a suggestion list to recover the old version or at least all the old bookmark and log in from last 20 years. It'll be highly and hugely appreciated. Thank you.

I leave my windows and tabs open and turn off my computer by clicking the shut down button on Windows 10. The next day I open Firefox and all my windows and tabs come back with no problem. I've been doing this for a few years and I gathered dozens of Firefox windows and hundreds of tabs. Now that I'm finally ready to organize what I've been putting off I noticed that most of these old tabs disappeared in a very weird way. When I open Firefox it still opens all windows from these past years but it loads most older windows with a single tab and these single tabs are all in the New Tab state. I'm sure that these used to be unique tabs with content in them and not New Tabs and I'm also sure that these windows had many tabs each and not just one.

The tabs have the name "New Tab" on the tabs bar and they're gray and empty, which is what I set all my new tabs to be, so they're regular New Tabs aside from the being lighter gray than a true new tab page. Refreshing and F5 have no effect. I can't go back a page or forward because the arrows are grayed out. I can't figure out what these tabs used to be by browsing my history because they've been added to the pile sporadically over the years and are mixed with other web pages, most of which I don't want to open again, so searching for all of them would be too hard. Tab groups that only contained these "New Tab'd" tabs have also disappeared and can't be found on the tab groups list menu. If I go to "View recent browsing across windows and devices" and then "Open tabs" these tabs are shown as "New Tab" and if I click the three dots menu and select "Copy link" it copies "about:blank".

Though this is not the most specific fix, I went to Firefox>Profiles>(Profile name)>sessionstore-backups and (after making a backup) deleted all files from there except for the one with the oldest modified date. I did this with Firefox closed and then I opened it and a few of my old "New Tab" windows became real windows again with multiple tabs inside. Curiously, the recovered windows and tabs were not the most recent ones that were affected by this problem and most windows are still lost in the New Tab state.

I think Firefox has been failing to restore older parts of my session but only kind of because it still recognizes the total number of windows I had but then it opens many of them with no content (a single New Tab) and no memory (arrows grayed out).

I've always updated Firefox throughout the years and I don't know when the problem started happening, it might have started months ago and I just didn't notice because I stored the tabs and didn't look at them again until now. I also noticed that windows that were in my most recent and most used desktop instance were fine while windows in my "storage" desktops were more likely to get "new tabbed", but maybe it's unrelated to desktop environments and only related to how recent windows are and most of my newer windows are in the newest desktop, but I can't know for sure because sometimes some windows move around desktops after a PC shutdown so it's impossible to know if windows are sorted between desktops 100% by age, I think it's a Windows 10 problem. Also there have been some forceful PC shutdowns over the months due to power outages, and I have removed my drive and used a different drive with a different OS a few times, always switching with the PC turned off.

Does anyone know how to get Firefox to remember my full session and find out what these fake new tabs used to be? If not, is there a way I can restore my session to a state that it was previously like months ago? I would need something more powerful than the sessionstore-backups folder because it only helps me roll back a few weeks. I have backups from the bookmarks windows (ctrl+shift+O) but I don't think they save active open tabs. Just curious, do they save browser history? It wouldn't help me in this case as I mentioned before but it's good to know.
