You get the orange Firefox menu button when the menu bar is hidden.

  • Firefox menu button > Options
  • View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
  • right-click empty toolbar area

Firefox won't change your settings after updates.

could you explain in detail

What exactly do you want Firefox to look like? I'm assuming you mean pre-Firefox 4?

Hi Tylerdowner, Thanks for the response. I have no idea what a pre-Firefox 4 page looked like. The start up screen for Firefox started with a toolbar that contained 'File', 'Edit','View', 'History', 'Bookmarks','Tools', and 'Help' headings, each with a drop down menu when you clicked on the heading. Under this was a tab for 'Mozilla Firefox Start Page' and a '+' tab. Under this was a horizontal line area where, on the left side, one could go to a website and on the right side one could do a Google search. Then, under this in a horizontal line, were icons for 'Most Visited', 'Getting Started', and 'Latest Headlines'. Then under all of the above, on the left side of the monitor screen, was a vertical column that contained my bookmark listings. To the right of this vertical column was the normal Firefox start page where one could also do a Google search and, on the bottom, were icons for 'Downloads', 'Bookmarks', 'History', 'Add Ons', 'Sync', and 'Settings'. I have no idea what version of Firefox I have. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello generalP, go to the 'Help' menu and select About Firefox, your version number is listed underneath the Firefox name.

see : Find what version of Firefox you are using

your system details said that you have 20.0, see your user agent :

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0

thank you

See:

First, you have an amazing visual memory.

To change your menu display, see cor-el's post.

To turn different toolbars on and off, try either of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the tab bar
  • tap the Alt key > View > Toolbars

What you described are the Navigation Toolbar and the Bookmarks Toolbar.

To open the Bookmarks Sidebar you can use Ctrl+b.

If the Alt key doesn't show the menu bar, you might be in full screen mode. Try the F11 function key to switch back and forth between full screen and normal views.

Any luck?

Hello Cor-el, Jscher2000,and Ideato: Thank you for your help; my blood pressure has returned to normal. When I started Firefox today the orange Firefox menu button was there and things are now as they should be. Why, I'm wondering, did the orange menu button not appear when I stated Firefox the last couple of days? Again, thanks.
