My other browsers work as expected. Firefox will open, but when I enter an address, nothing happens, I don't get any message of any kind. If I try to close the browser by clicking the X nothing happens, I have to go to the menu and click the Exit Firefox to close it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and the same behavior continues. I can get it to work by going to Menu, clicking the ? go to Trouble Shooting and selecting Refresh Firefox, then it works as usual. But once I close it, it does not work again unless I go to the Trouble Shooting and click refresh again.

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I tried the suggestions and no luck, still the exact same issue.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

That made no difference, still the same behaviour in safe mode
