I don't have the Pocket extension installed, though I do have the Pocket service enabled. So why do I have two Pocket icons?

Screenshot attached.

I never installed the Pocket extension. My Customize panel has "Pocket" only, and not "Save page to Pocket". I don't know where that one came from.

When you save you have the Pocket service enabled, what do you mean -- does it appear anywhere in Firefox's user interface, or do you just use their website?

Try to click Restore Defaults to see if that has effect.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

By "I have the Pocket service enabled", I'm referring to the Firefox Service known as Pocket.

As such, I'm referring not at all to their website, but something to do with Firefox itself.

Okay, yes, if you install the Service and it is enabled, then you get the service button which has a different caption. (Screen shots attached)

They appear next to each other because I dragged the new button off the toolbar and put it there. That didn't happen by itself.

No dice. Same issue, as you can see here.

But— Wait— Okay, I'm now officially confused. I thought the native Pocket functionality was the Service. Now you're saying they're two separate features? O_o

Yes, a few versions ago, Pocket started getting bundled with the standard installation of Firefox. I think it probably works the same way as the service, but you don't need to install the service.

So what's the difference between them? if any, is it aesthetic or functionality-wise? I don't know if the native feature would have prior to this, but after I enabled the Service one, the native feature didn't work.

I've never used Pocket myself.

So you don't know the difference between the Service and the native feature?

What? σ_ο

This has absolutely nothing to do with my question here.

As between us, as a Pocket user, you are in the best position to notice any differences between the bundled-in version and the service version or any other version. I'm not sure it's worth exploring but if you learn anything, you could post it back here.

True.

Eh, I'm probably not gonna worry about it. Thanks, anyway, though.
