why using a 'fox' icon

Fire fox, which is also called red panda, belongs to Arctoidea. (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/firefox-name-faq.html) Mascot on this page: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ is a fire fox. But the one used in your icon is apparently not.

I kind of like the short lived Phoenix/Firebird icon better.  Smiley Wink http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox#Branding_and_visual_identity
