when I updated to Firefox 5 my realplayer downloader was disabled and now I don't know how to download mp3's.

the realplayer downloader downloaded mp3's and then converted them to copy on the ipod. When Firefox updated to Firefox 5, a pop up said that realplayer add-on was incompatable... so now when my mp3 is playing I don't know how to get it to itunes so I can get it to the ipod.

Re: when I updated to Firefox 5 my realplayer downloader was disabled and now I don't know how to download mp3's.

Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended.

Here's the process to roll back to 3.6:

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older

Close Firefox 5.

You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.

Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.

Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

If Firefox disabled some add-ons (especially extensions), it likely is because they include a list of compatible Firefox versions and haven't yet been updated for Firefox 5. If they worked on Firefox 4, there is a good chance they will work on Firefox 5.

You can force Firefox to ignore add-on version restrictions by (what else) installing an add-on. Then you can test whether the add-ons important to you actually work in Firefox 5.

Add-on Compatibility Reporter :: Add-ons for Firefox

After you install the Compatibility Reporter and restart Firefox, there should be an extra control for each add-on that lets you turn them on and off even if they do not claim compatibility with Firefox 5.

Please report back on your results.

I guess I don't know which Firefox addons are compatible with the realplayer downloading system. All I want to do is get the mp3 to itunes where I can download it to my ipod. I downloaded the Add-on Compatibility Reporter and then clickes on the realplayer add-on in the add-on manager. But after Firefox re-started again it still remains dis-abled so I reported that. Thank you......stuck again.

Did an "Enable" button appear to let you enable it? If not, it could be on a block list if during beta testing it caused a lot of crashes.

I imagine there are other add-ons with similar features, but I haven't explored them.

You can try this... Open Real Player and Go to Preferences --> Download and Recording --> Uncheck the option for "Enable Web Download and Recording for these installed browser" --> click OK. Then again Open Real Player and Go to Preferences --> Download and Recording --> Check the option for "Enable Web Download and Recording for these installed browser" --> click OK. Restart Firefox and it should work!!!

I think it came up and I clicked it and then it changed to compatibility! and from there it reverted back to the original headline over the box : .....not compatible with new version Firefox 5......heck I want my Firefox 4 back....why update ?

Thank you jscher2000. I rolled back to Firefox 3.6 and so it's working again and I'm relieved. I appreciate your help. I didn't uninstall Firefox 5. I guess it just installed over it.

Seriously? The answer to getting Realplayer download to work is to rollback Firefox to a previous version.... WTF? Thank you to those who contribute their time and resources to FF as it's free, but be sure that major stuff works (Realplayer plugins) before you release and fK up everyone's workflow. There may even be a simple answer to my dilemma in the posts above but quess what, I don't have time to read them (like many others). I barely have time to register and write this rant/post. FFS! Whoever is responsible needs to fix this sh*t. Again thank you, however, for your time, talent, and effort for providing Firefox/ addons at no cost to general public. [SIGH]
