search engine of Mozilla Firefox start page doesn't work with any suggestions i give it.
What happens if you type a query and press Enter -- nothing happens? Results page tries to load but can't load?
By default, the query should be sent to Google. However, there are some add-ons which may change this. You could try this add-on to reset your search services to Google:
Does that work?
If it stops working at some point, e.g., when restarting Firefox, then we should look for something in your settings that is changing it.
You can also check the value of the browser.search.defaultenginename pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.
If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:
You can check if you still have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the searchplugins folder in Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
Hi starsh1, do you mean the "internal" page (about:home) launched with Firefox 4? Or do you mean the old Google page used in Firefox 3? Could you describe the one you're looking for in more detail?
I also have this problem; my start up page was changed to Old, which i was confused when this happen when i Disabled AVG Plugin. I don't know if i have any virus. When i activated AVG Security Plugin, it actually starts with latest ._.
Search Settings is blocking SearchReset from running, i think this file is malcious or not. Tell me please
Hi jd434, please check for and disable ALL nonessential, recently added, and/or unrecognized extensions on the following tab. If in doubt, disable:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
After restarting Firefox, does the SearchReset extension work?
If you notice your changes stick for the remainder of your session but change again when you restart, an external program may have added or changed a settings file named user.js. This article describes how to find that file: How to fix preferences that won't save.
The "Search Settings Plugin" extension may have been added by another extension like PDF Creator.
Thanks for your add-on link.I solved my problem about Firefox start page. It's bring me back Google search bar.
