everything I click on opens another tab

Everything I click on opens another tab, there is no other way to describe this major problem. And I mean everything you click on! I have restarted, reinstalled, ran in safe mode, disabled add on's ect...... I have been a loyal firefoxer for about 6 years and this makes me not want to continue......help.......!

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Have you restarted Windows since this happened?

It sounds as though the Ctrl key is being treated as held down the entire time you're using Firefox. That would be incredibly annoying. In case it is your keyboard, if you rapidly tap each of the Ctrl keys a half dozen times, does that do anything to help?

Do you have a fancy mouse or trackball? Some come with driver applications that can send different key combinations to different applications, so that also would be worth checking.
