The Question summarizes the problem that is prevelant in thousands of Firefox downloads as witnessed by the same thousands of people in your Question Forum. You must know what the heck is causing this and how to fix it. Version numbers are meaningless. This problem appeared last year and no cache clearing or cookie cutting or re-downloading or anything else will fix it. Why do you do nothing to solve this error?? I don't like IE8 but I have no choice, I need a working browser.

This problem is way past Reset Firefox. I tried that 6 months ago. This thing appears out of nowhere and corrupts a perfectly operating browser to one that constantly spews out the page that you can see in the Add Images box. I have three computers that originally all had Firefox running. Now there's only one, and I tried it yesterday and it went the way of the others. The only thing I did was do a Windows update like every month. No, it's not Reset Firefox!
try resetting all network related preferences in firefox - enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for all custom preferences (=shown in bold) that begin with network.dns or network.http - right-click and reset those entries to their default values.
I went to about:config and found a million entries of various kinds but I did not see your network.xxx enties in bold. I was going to uninstall the damn thing anyway so I found some custom preferences and reset defaults in them just for fun. Verrrry dangerous! The end result was that it would not open a website when I asked for one, but it came up with the "Content Encoding Error" every time I restarted Firefox. You can kill the beast but it still farts in my general direction.......I hate Firefox.
You can rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program and may be making changes to HTTP response headers.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
My windows Firewall has always allowed firefox.exe, dating back to my first insatallation. The problem still exists whether the Firefox Exceptions is on or off. Disabling Microsoft Security Essentials does not solve the problem either. Safe Mode does not help. Playing around with prefs.js is beyond my patience level. Supposed Worldwide-Class software shouldn't need that type of fiddling.
ALL websites open with IE8. 95% of sites give that damn Firefox Error Screen. I repeat I repeat what I said before : why can't the software developers find this problem that's plaguing thousands of people and fix it from their end???. Thank you for replying and providing possible things to try.

It is far more likely the problem is something on your own machine or settup.
I see no evidence that it is affecting thousands of Firefox users, and does not affect me when I run Firefox on Windows. If it was affecting all Windows users of Firefox it would be affecting Hundreds of Millions of users, and the problem would be unmissable.

Thousands may be an exaggeration, but the problem is evident when you check the Forum. The problem does exist for some people including myself, you must have something that eliminates this Error. I have 3 computers that started Firefox perfectly but they all went to that Error page one after another. I suggest you try to follow the suggestions that are being provided.
The problem is almost certainly going to be something related to your own particular setup or use pattern. With a userbase approaching 1/2 Billion almost any conceivable problem will be seen by multiple users. In many cases it turns out to be the user that needs to take action rather than any fix being required in Firefox.
