When Firefox opens a popup window as part of a website, it comes up blank - what to do?

This happened when I was on the Medicare website, also I believe when I tried to print an invoice from Amazon, and one website I use all the time that I subscribe to - normally Firefox opens a new window with the information, but the window pops up blank, with the blue bar at the top looking like I could enter a website to go to but it won't even let me do that - the whole thing is non-functioning. I tried allowing popups but that didn't help. This happened once before and I had to reset the entire thing, which was a major hassle. I really don't want to do that so I'm hoping someone can help!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thank you for your help - glad it turned out to be simple! It was RealDownloader that messed me up.
