To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade?

Current version 3.6.16 I sometimes get notices about my browser being " An Old Version" The browser is working fine. Several Add-on's like: Add Block, Https Everywhere and Forced TLS Configuration have been added.

I like the current set-up. After visiting the Mozilla site, I noticed the new version looks different that what I have now.

1. If I chose to Upgrade will the Add-on's be available? 2. Will my book marks be kept? 3. What are the pro's and Con's?

Windows Vista Installed.

Thanks... Jay

Re: To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade?

It's very important to keep your browser up to date, because new versions contain fixes for security bugs that have been found in older versions.

This article answers several of your questions, and also gives some ways you can make the new version look more like the old version if you prefer: Common questions after upgrading from Firefox 3.6

In answer to your questions:

  1. Adblock Plus, HTTPS Everywhere, and Force TLS are all compatible with the latest version of Firefox.
  2. Yes, your bookmarks, history, saved passwords, etc. will be preserved.
  3. The new version is more secure, faster, contains some new features, and supports web pages that use newer web technologies. However, some parts of the user interface have changed and may take getting used to. If you have questions about specific changes and how to customize them, you can post them in this forum.
