Sorry, I have send a change for this article, but what I wanted was to translate it to Basque... I don't know how to delete my modification, so please ignore it.

I deferred your revision and then deleted it.

Thank you.

Related discussion:

Joni added a screenshot and the Import Wizard step for Firefox 32 (see Bug 1036186 - Reset Migration wizard no longer skips the first step to choose a browser).

I changed {for fx29} to {for =fx29,=fx30,=fx31}

This is now fixed for Firefox 32 and above so the recent changes can be reverted.

Related bugs:

  • Bug 1027884 - We need a more appropriate name for "Reset Firefox"
  • Bug 1063702 - Update all Reset Firefox strings and relevant UI to reflect improved copy

Maybe there could be note/warning above step 1 that tells the user about stuff is about to get deleted and a link to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems#w_what-does-the-reset-fe... so the user can read what is keept and what is deleted, and so that user can know about the Old Firefox-data folder and how to get stuff like extensions back.

Also i would like a screenshot of the Reset Firefox window, but im not able to capture the english screenshot for the different systems my self. Its nice to see the screenshot before trying the real thing so the user is a bit more prepared and it also talks about whats being keept on the screenshot so that proberly helps the user a bit.

I made an edit to the pending revision for the fx35 Reset -> Refresh change (needs review).

We have a new, functional button for fx 35 (see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/knowledge-base-articles/710972 for more information).

I've revised this article to include the new button. I'm also going through all the linked articles to make sure that the template works (some of these are probably redirects):

Edited on 2:25 PM PST to cross off articles from this to-do list.

I suppose this is the related bug?

  • Bug 1062345 - Breakdown: Implement "Reset Firefox" from Mozilla websites

Joni posted this related bug in the KB articles forum thread:

Bug 1087865 - Add the ability to include a Refresh Firefox button in a support article.

Hi all,

It is not very clear to me why there is a long commented section beginning on line 20 : is it obsolete or one thing yet to come ? why is there the suggestion to "unhide" in case the button does not work ?

thanks for any hint

Hi Goofy,

The step-by-step instructions are up-to-date. I was just being cautious since the button is new and I'd like to see user feedback before assuming that it really works on everyone's devices.

I hid the instructions instead of deleting them so we don't have to rewrite the whole thing in case we do have to show all the instructions.

Please let me know if that makes sense. Joni

Thanks for your answer. I understand your rationale but i doubt the button will not work, since I tend to trust the QA team for the code, but who knows :)

The new fx35 Refresh Firefox button used in this template won't work if you're using a different browser. That should be made clearer, for people who might be using another browser to get help because they're having problems with Firefox.

I made a new edit to make it clearer that the new Fx35 Refresh button only works in Firefox; I also added note to the end of the template about Reset/Refresh also being available in Firefox Safe Mode.

+1

I made a new revision for fx35 to add what happens after clicking the Refresh button, since people need to know what is supposed to happen so that they know the Refresh worked. I tested it in a new Firefox 35 profile by clicking the new Refresh Firefox button, and made screenshots.

Bug 1274210 - SUMO article should only show "Refresh Firefox" button if reset is supported

Background in bug 1126559.

I removed the "needs change" entry since i don't see anything in this template that needs changing. Bug 1274210 needs developer action for code changes to hide the the Refresh button if it isn't supported.

I'll ask about the Refresh button in SUMO articles in the contributor forum's Help us migrate SUMO! thread.

The only thing I might change would be to add that the Refresh button will only work if you are viewing the page in Firefox using the default profile. Only thing, using a non-default profile in Firefox is an "edge" case and Michael Verdi decided not to document that issue (see this July 2012 thread in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings discussion).

This is no longer the case as of Firefox 49 since the issue was fixed in Bug 1265368 - Stop restricting Firefox refresh to the selected/default profile.

The "Refresh Firefox" button on SUMO pages now works when using a non-default Firefox profile. The Refresh Firefox buttons also appear and work in the about:support page and in the Safe Mode window as of Firefox 49.

Joni made a revision yesterday to hide the Refresh button:
