Navigaton within web sites is not right. E.G. trying to log out of Facebook brings up account settings dialog instead. Fixable?

Using Firefox 12. Having progressive loss of functionality within some sites, First, within Facebook, chat stopped working. Then trying to post a status results in a blank page. Now, trying to logout brings up the Account Settings menu. Also have trouble with Domino's pizaa online ordering jumping to wrong pages and never completely loading.

Two PCs are involved. One with XP and one with Vista Home Edition.

IE does not have the same problems.

How do I fix this? Have already tried Safe Mode, reinstalling Firefox 12, reverting to an older version of Firefox, updating plugins, etc. etc. etc.,

Here's what I get if I try to do a Status Update in Facebook via Firefox. A blank page with URL

It seems the problem is on your computers or your router.

- What antivirus software do they have?

- Are both of them updated (os & antivirus)?

- Are you connecting to Facebook by SSL (you can see https://www.facebook.com/______)?

When I get the answer to these questions maybe I'll know what's going on.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Both pcs are using Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, upgraded from 2011.

Both OS are as updated as possible - Microsoft stopped updates to XP some time ago.

The initial connection is by SSL, but https:// becomes http:// after logging in, both with Firefox and IE.

I use DSL and security-enabled Home Networking for my computers and Roku.

The facebook problem has been incremental and was at first intermittent - Chat would sometimes work and sometimes not. Then Chat stopped working, followed by Pokes, followed by Posts and the drop-down menu where logout is found. Clicking for that menu takes me direct to Account Settings. But they don't work either. I must use IE to get to Facebook and I had to use IE to change my password.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled both Firefox and Kaspersky using my current versions AND my prior versions. I've disabled everything and then re-enabled it. My add-ons are up to date. I've cleared things out using Hijack This, C Cleaner, Windows installer, and vendor-supplied installers.

To make things more interesting, I have a third PC running Firefox 12, XP and (expired) Kaspersky 2011 which handles Facebook correctly. And I sync all three.

Just so you'll know, I'm no novice. I have an MS in Computer Science and my first personal computer was an Osborne 1. And I know my toolkit very well.

But, this one's got me stumped.

This is confusing.

  • Make sure no special user-defined settings are set up in about:config
  • Check all your Facebook Account Settings, especially those related with technical purposes.
  • Temporary disable your antivirus software to see if it is a antivirus issue.
  • Disable all non-necessary plugins in aboutSmiley Tonguelugins

Try to completely uninstall Firefox and delete your profile

   Already tried that.
Try to enter Facebook in Safe Mode
   Already tried that.
Make sure no special user-defined settings are set up in about:config
   Not gonna mess with that.
Check all your Facebook Account Settings, especially those related with technical purposes.
   Already did that.
Perform a antivirus scan with the free, non-invassive, updated ClamWin antivirus
   My Kaspersky is better.
Temporary disable your antivirus software to see if it is a antivirus issue.
   Already tried that.
Disable all non-necessary plugins in aboutSmiley Tonguelugins
   Alrready tried that.

Oh f**k your browser is really bricked. ... It's normal in Windows Vista Smiley Very Happy... Maybe you'll need to try Firefox Portable. Firefox Portable is a low dependency non installable version of Firefox. If it works there maybe your installation is corrupted or some system files are. If it doesn't, anyway, check that your system files are correct. To do so, open a administrator command prompt and type:

  • sfc /scannow

That should detect non-genuine and corrupted system DLLs and files and replace them with dllcache or Windows Setup disc.

Make sure UXTheme.dll is not patched and your Windows copy is genuine before running SFC.

It seems to be a recent change in something, but I'm not sure anyone has nailed it down precisely yet.
