My home page is Google but everytime I close Firefox it opens to the last page viewed. Startup is set to "show my homepage" but it's still not working. I've tried so many things but nothing seems to work. Can someone please give me "Simple" answer.
Sometimes dialogs may not accurately reflect the actual settings under the hood. Changing your startup setting and OK'ing that, then changing it back and OK'ing that, might help reset it.
If Firefox detects that it failed to shut down normally, it will ignore your startup setting and automatically restore your previous session. Maybe that's what's happening here?
In order to test this theory, you can change a setting so that instead of automatically restoring the session, Firefox presents a screen that lets you choose what to restore, or simply to start a new session.
Please note that I'm suggesting this as a diagnostic to see whether this is the problem, and not suggesting that you have to live with it forever.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste crash and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes preference and change the value from 1 to 0 then click OK. The preference should appear in bold, indicating that it has been customized.
At the next startup, if Firefox thinks it crashed at the end of your last session, you should get a different screen. Notice any change?
Halleluyah!!! I've been saved!!!!
Thank you Jscher2000!!!
Ouch, didn't help here
Hi bluefleetwood, are you running Firefox 20 on a Mac? If so...
There is a "bug" in Firefox 20 on Mac OS X where if you close all the pages and then Quit Firefox, it thinks it crashed and starts with the crash recovery screen on the next startup.
Two workarounds until this is fixed:
(1) Quit with at least one page open; or
(2) Don't try to restore the previous session after a crash. Here's how that is changed:
(i) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the search box in that tab, type or paste sessions and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to toggle its value from true to false.
This should be fixed in a future release of Firefox.
You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.
Running FF 18, lots of my add ons no good with 20 on PC. Thanks
Nope, that didnt help either. Thanks Cor-el
Hi bluefleetwood, could you start a new question with your system information and extensions listed? You can do that here:
We can discuss solutions and workarounds for your add-ons in that thread as well.
