MARCH 18, 2014 NEW UPDATE CRASHES

I've been anticipating the new update I was told would be today, and it was. After I updated it to Version 28 I opened FF and it immediately crashed. I sent in a crash report, and did that three other times. So now, sadly, I'm back to version 27 that stinks as well.

Anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong with it?? I checked my addons for compatibility and said they were fine. I did nothing different except update to newest version. Not sure what else to do. I refuse to uninstall anything at this point, although that seems to be the basic "advice" given here.....it never solves my problems LOL

So, what next?? And thanks for any help.

I have Windows 7

Re: MARCH 18, 2014 NEW UPDATE CRASHES

Figured a way around it all.

Okay like I said in my last post, Yesterday I disabled Shockwave in Plugins. However, as you all know, you need shockwave and flash for most things....so I went back and set it to say "ASK TO ACTIVATE" so when a web page loads and needs it, it will ask me and then I'll either say "yes" or "no" and that seems to be working. So far, after three hours it hasn't crashed and shockwave/flash all work fine when it needs it.

So, maybe this bit of info helps the developers to FIX this problem for good Smiley Happy (fingers crossed)

Also Cor-el Thank you, I've actually already done all of that earlier. None of it seemed to work except what I've just said. Thanks for helping out tho Smiley Happy

Re: MARCH 18, 2014 NEW UPDATE CRASHES

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there. You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Cor-el

I have no idea what that is. And the firefox I'm currently using, is the 27 version because I cant open the new one from today. So I'm not sure if you're seeing the correct readings that it sent you.

Re: MARCH 18, 2014 NEW UPDATE CRASHES

Can you start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift/Options key?

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Re: MARCH 18, 2014 NEW UPDATE CRASHES

Cor-el have you looked into my data that was posted along with my posts? If so, are you seeing something that might be clashing with it, like an add on or extension or something else?? If so, what did you see?

I have uninstalled version 28 earlier because its of no use to me when it doesn't open long enough to even see whats clashing with it.

Re: MARCH 18, 2014 NEW UPDATE CRASHES

hello, according to the associated bug report it is likely related to the tweaked gfx. settings in about:config. i'd try to reset firefox and see if this can address the issue...

You can also try to delete the user.js file that shows in the System Details List as present and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Cor-el What is the "user.js" file??? I read the links you posted but I still dont understand. I am not computer savvy as the rest of you are, so you might have to "dumb it down" a bit for me LOL
