Re: It is imposible to install Adobe Flash player 11.1

There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:

  • an ActiveX version for IE only
  • a Plugin version for most other browsers including Firefox
  • On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.

You have the Plugin version 9.0.45 for Firefox installed -- a very old version. In Add-ons > Plugins you shpuld see "Shockwave Flash (version)".

Check your Plugins often --> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

  • only the most popular/used Plugins are known by this page
  • page will detect only installed, enabled Plugins

Install or update Adobe Flash

  1. Using Firefox, go to the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later. Un-check any items on that page that you do not want to download (i.e., "McAfee Security Scan Plus":
  2. When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit OR Firefox button > Exit)
  3. Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
    • In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
    • The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    • The installation is quick.
  4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
  5. To update/install the ActiveX version for IE only, repeat the process, but use IE to go to the above website.

Re: It is imposible to install Adobe Flash player 11.1

I ran into that issue for one of our user's. He had plugins locked. I found that by goign to the flash player install site and when it tried to install it i saw a Blocked tab/link come up on the web page screen. We clicked on that and it brought us to the plugin configuration screen and once we unlocked it Flash installed and worked fine.

Hope this helps!

Re: It is imposible to install Adobe Flash player 11.1

I have repeatedly tried installing the Adobe Flash Player, as instructed, and the process seems to be successful: I get a page in Firefox that says "You have successfully jnstalled Flash Player". But i haven't!

Re: It is imposible to install Adobe Flash player 11.1

What version of FF? In FF 8.0 I know you need to use the flash player plugin. For IE you need the flash player active x. I deploy both to our windows 7 64 bit systems company wide and have no issues with either. I had an issue with one install of FF, the person had accidently disabled Plug-in's, somthing to think about. For Adobe Flash player I go the extra step and applied for the lic to distibute Flash and Skockwave. They then send you a specail link to download the installs for deployment, not sure if your trying to deploy the install or not. I think it's easier to work with the install file rather then trying to auto install from the flash player page? Maybe you have something in firefox disabling the plugin?

GoodLuck!

That old Flash plugin (NPSWF32.DLL) may have been installed in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\), so you can see if it shows there and remove the file.
If you still have a components folder then remove that folder as well.

I finally solved by problem by: reinstalling Firefox; and updating all plug-ins as noted by Firefox: Java and Silverlight in particular.

Re: It is imposible to install Adobe Flash player 11.1

This sounds like a different issue, but in case someone finds this thread for the issue we had, here's a solution:

On 6/11/2012 an Adobe flash update caused Hulu and YouTube flash content to stop working in Firefox on one of our Win7 laptops. We confirmed this issue on a Vista desktop when we updated Adobe flash. We fixed both by 1) upgrading Firefox (I think we went from version 12 to 13) and 2) implemented the fix found here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071

Notes: step 2) above seems to be the critical factor. On one system, we had to run notepad as Administrator to update the mms.cfg file. We also did several uninstalls and reinstalls of flash, and reboots along the way to figuring this out, so it's possible there are some order dependencies. Also, when you edit mms.cfg, make sure the file extension is "cfg" and you don't create, for example, mms.cfg.txt.

For those who don't want to or can't follow the link above, here's the important snippet:

"... To disable, add the following line to your mms.cfg file located in:

Windows 32bit: C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash

Windows 64bit: C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash

ProtectedMode=0

If the mms.cfg file does not exist, create one using any standard text editor (e.g.. notepad) [...] Depending on your operating system, you might need to first save the mms.cfg file to a writable location (such as your documents or desktop folder) and then copy the file into the destination folder using Windows Explorer.

To enable Protected Mode, simply remove the line from the mms.cfg file."

Re: It is imposible to install Adobe Flash player 11.1

Note to anyone reading this thread.

The above reply by jsnimurphy applies only to Shockwave Flash version 11.3.300.257 or higher. The original poster was trying to install Shockwave Flash 11.1. Protected Mode does not exist in versions of Flash prior to 11.3.300.257.

Re: It is imposible to install Adobe Flash player 11.1

Sorry - should have said my update was for 11.3.300.257 - I didn't have the version in front of me. This thread is high on the search results when I was looking for a solution and I was just trying to save folks some trouble.
