Rolling back isn't supported, as that will leave you vulnerable to many known security threats. Instead, let's get your Firefox working :)

First, update to Firefox 18. Update Firefox to the latest version

Then, update your plugins. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

Then try to Reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

v.18 came out today, but I'm not updating my Windows 8 machine unless it fixed all the Flash issues and crash issues v.17 introduced. I tried 18 when it was in beta, and it was no better than 17. v16 still works fine for me.

Actually, the flash issues are Adobe's, they were introduced in Flash 11.3 and they haven't fixed their game since then (believe me, I'm as frustrated as you are). Updating to 18 will actually leave you more secure that 16 (which has known security bugs) plus it's quite a bit faster and more stable. Give it a whirl :)

OK. I'll try 18 when I get home. I'm running v18 on my Windows 7 laptop now and it seems to work well, but v17, Windows 8, and Flash 11.5 were a nightmare combo.

The flash issues only affect some users, and we have a few solutions, try reading Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox. Also, disable protected mode for Flash

Thanks guys! I added wireshark yesterday and Firefox started acting up on my laptop. 18 seems cool but I kinda liked having my bookmarks in the same window.<smile> Anyway I updated flash and Java and was able to re-install all my VPN and Firewall web GUIs so I am back to work. I hate Internet Exploder and would rather not use Chrome. And while I was typing I figured it out and have my sidebar back!...Thanks again!

Re: How do I roll back from 17.0.1?

I just "upgraded" to 18.0.1 and now links don't work, such as the sign in link at the top of this page and so on. Main links seem to work but links at the top of pages seem to not work in many cases.

I find this - or some other crippling symptom - happens almost every time Firefox updates. Firefox sucks as compared to the Firefox of old. It's bloated and slow and doesn't update well.

I would like to see Firefox implement a system where it is EASY to roll back to a previous version. I know you think that's a bad thing but the fact is, often the new versions cause problems and we the end users have to spend OUR time going back to find an earlier version and re-loading it and so on, whereas it should just be an easy fix.

Once the bugs are worked out we can easily choose to try a new update, knowing we can EASILY roll back to the one that WORKED.

I have updated my JAVA etc and STILL Firefox doesn't work. I do not wish to RESET it as I will lose all my extensions and other addons which is the whole reason I use Firefox (the ONLY reason I put up with its lousy updates, as a matter of fact).

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE implement a Rollback button within Options!

Re: How do I roll back from 17.0.1?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Re: How do I roll back from 17.0.1?

I actually am running 19.0.2 now and have no issues. When I reset Firefox in January it seemed to solve the issues. (See second post in thread)

I don't allow anything to automatically update, but I do get alerts and read up on them before installing now. Haven't had any issues since then. Well except with the software that uses Internet Exploder...
