Re: How do I remove cache?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Re: How do I remove cache?

Why do you think that removing the cache will speed up things?

Is Firefox currently running slow or do you have other problems?

The browsing is used to store files, so you do not need to reload them from internet if you revisit a website and having the cache enabled shouldn't have a negative effect. Disabling the cache can't have such an effect however. You can consider to disable IPv6.

Re: How do I remove cache?

I want to stop all cache storage. My home page is Corrupted when I first open Firefox, so I waste time by having to "clear" the cache and reload my home page. Significantly slower!

I have set the cache limit to 0MB but that does not appear to work. I note that the proxy setting uses a "cache" somewhere other than on my computer, so is that the casue of my problem?

Why is there not a simple page for asking a technical question and getting a direct reply from Mozilla?

Re: How do I remove cache?

In what way does the home page get corrupted?

Are you using any external cleanup software to remove data in the Firefox profile folder?

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (MAC)

Hello, I agree with cor-el that

The browsing is used to store files, so you do not need to reload them from internet if you revisit a website and having the cache enabled shouldn't have a negative effect. Disabling the cache can't have such an effect however

if the cache works correct the browser is a little more faster than to disable the cache.

however, try it and tell us if it is for your needs :

in about:config find and make the follow changes :

browser.cache.disk.enable , double-click on it to make it FALSE

browser.cache.disk.capacity , double-click on it, put 0 (zero), and OK to save it

browser.cache.check_doc_frequency , double-click on it, put 1 , and OK to save it

browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl , double-click on it to make it FALSE

network.http.use-cache , double-click on it to make it FALSE

browser.cache.memory.enable , double-click on it to make it FALSE

BUT again, probably the browser will be a little slower after the above changes.

thank you

Re: How do I remove cache?

It is best to leave the memory cache enabled.

Also note that Firefox may be using minimum values for cache settings, so you won't be able to set the size to 0.

You can use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the disk cache and Firefox won't use the disk cache with this setting as you can see by the missing section on the about:cache page.
