How do I make sure the settings of my add ons is saved after I close firefox?

When I close firefox, for whatever reason, to turn off my computer etc. and come back online the settings for my addons are all messed up! My tree tabs are not in a fixed position like they should be. NoScript's settings are screwy and I have to make sure to whitelist all the sites like facebook and even mozilla again. My Persona has been reset to the default and i will always get the introductory tab for each add on as well when I open up firefox. This is a new thing and comes with a very annoying friend I'm going to call the keysmash website. where the "New tab" page should be this pops up http://www.[r;;iåvÞyevq¾qîx»òki.com/ I don't know what this site is supposed to be other than a load of gibberish. Once again this is a new thing and happens still even after I've reset firefox and removed babylon scanned my computer for malware. What's weird is that this seems to be the only issue firefox is having. Otherwise it's working like a dream all of my tabs are saving from the previous session, all of it is running smothly but this. I am wondering if I may not be up to date though I highly doubt this as mozilla has just updated for me last week so, what am I doing wrong? Is this just a bug that needs to be repaired? Please help!

Thanks for the help! So, I found the preferences file, and it is the only one but I think it might be corrupted? all the prefs are fine, as they should be but there is also a lot of gibberish in the file, so do you think that maybe if I deleted the file and reset my preferences from scratch that would work? I dunno it's all rather dumbfounding to me.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Some security software has virtualization or sandbox features that may cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder.

Try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

If you rename the file(s) then you can undo the action or inspect the files with an editor like Notepad.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I have windows security essentials. I've deleted the prefs file, will it just recreate itself? Or do i have to find a way to make a new file? Do you think it would help if I were to uninstall and reinstall firefox?
