How do I make Bookmarks appear in my toolbar?

Firefox -> Bookmarks -> *click*

<Library opens>

<The bookmarks menu appears as a folder, and any new bookmark added to the menu, does NOT appear in the folder, but instead appears in the bookmark menu that is accessed from firefox -> bookmarks.

Re: How do I make Bookmarks appear in my toolbar?

(the library does open if you click Bookmarks in Firefox > Bookmarks; the list opens if you hover the arrow at the right of it)

I'm not sure what you want to achieve.

Do you want to access bookmarks via the Bookmarks menu or possibly the Bookmarks Menu button or do you want to see them on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

Firefox 4+ versions have two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window.
One star button has a drop marker that open a Bookmark menu.
The other star button without the drop marker opens the bookmarks in the sidebar.

You can drag the Bookmarks menu button with the drop marker in the Customize window from the toolbar palette on a toolbar (e.g. Navigation Toolbar or Tab Bar or to the left side of the Bookmarks Menu Items).

You only see the Bookmarks Menu button if the Menu bar with the Bookmarks menu is hidden (View > Toolbars or Firefox > Options).
If the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible then the Bookmarks Menu button is displayed on the Bookmarks Toolbar as part of the Bookmarks Toolbar Items (bookmarks), but you can move it from the right side to the left side of the Bookmarks toolbar if the Customize window is open.
Otherwise the Bookmarks Menu button will appear on the right hand side of the Navigation Toolbar.

hello wadarkhu, please right-click on some empty space near the tab-bar - then you can select the bookmarks toolbar to be shown (see screenshot)

You may nest folders, and choose which folder to put a bookmark into.

The folder "bookmarks toolbar" is the one that displays on the bookmarks toolbar. It may scroll off the screen if you have too many items. If the top level items are folders they become drop-down menus.

The library shows all your bookmark content. (And also History and Tabs).

Firefox ->Bookmarks (click)
does NOT open the bookmarks library
it does show a bookmarks listing, and some of the items will be folders, including your bookmarks toolbar folder

Firefox -> Bookmarks -> Show all boobmarks
does open the bookmarks library

Note bookmarks are also available from

  • the bookmarks sidebar, Ctrl + B is one method of accessing that in Windows
  • the bookmarks icon if it is installed and active.

"Firefox ->Bookmarks (click) does NOT open the bookmarks library "

I said it opens a library. The window it opens is called "Library".

I'm going to rephrase my question: How do I get all my bookmarks to show, with one click?

Re: How do I make Bookmarks appear in my toolbar?

You probably can not easily get all bookmarks to show with one click.

For instance you could use the bookmarks sidebar icon (or Ctrl + B). (Not installed by default, add it by right clicking and using customize) That will open in the same state as the previous use, so if all your folders are already expanded, you will see all bookmarks or at least as many as fit on the screen.

If you use the dropdown bookmarks, that you call the library then Folders are closed, and represented with a clickable side arrow to expand. If necessary scroll arrows appear at the top and bottom.

The bookmarks Library window is you best bet. It may be displayed as a fullscreen window. It remembers settings, such as open folders. It will open with Ctrl+Shift+B (Windows). It is actually possible to bookmark it if you really need a single click option.

Re: How do I make Bookmarks appear in my toolbar?

"Firefox 4+ versions have two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window."

I went to customize, found the bookmark button at the bottom, and added it to my Bookmarks Toolbar.

I can now access all my bookmarks with one click, after opening Firefox.

Thank you very much, cor-el. Problem solved! Smiley Happy
