How do I disable or remove a plug-in that does not appear in Add-On Manager?
A few weeks ago I discovered that I had a number of pop-up windows appearing when I hovered the mouse over certain text phrases. After experimenting with it I found this was happening in Internet Explorer (IE) as well as Firefox and the pop-up windows also identified the plugin as "Shopping Sidekick Plugin". I looked in IE and found the offending Plug-in but was unable to delete or disable it because the entry in IE's plug-in manager was grayed out. I also looked in Firefox's Add-ons Manager and the Plug-in was not there at all, even though the plug-in was actively working.
After doing a bit of searching, I discovered that the Plugin had an entry in Windows Control Panel under Programs. So I clicked on it to uninstall it, which it did successfully. The offending behavior disappeared from IE but I still get it in Firefox. As stated before, the plug-in does not now, nor has it ever appeared in the Add-ons Manager under Firefox. I did follow the Firefox recommendations on manually removing plugins, but using that procedure I did not find the plugin in Firefox either.

hello, in the firefox terminology this would likely be an extension in the addons-manager. please go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.
