Gmail no longer opens in Firefox and has for years!

Gmail has always operated in Firefox until about last week.

It will open into Explorer and Google Chrome.

I try to open gmail and the screen stays blank.

Computer literacy is not a strength!

You might have seen the advice to clear your cache and cookies, but didn't get the specific steps to do so. Here they are.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

This can take a few minutes to run if you have a large hard drive.

(2) Remove your google.com cookies

Save any pending work first, then, while viewing a page on google.com:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Select each cookie and click Remove. Then OK out and try reloading the page.

Can you log in and get to your mail?

If cached files and bad cookies are not causing the problem, the next culprit usually is an add-on. This article describes Safe Mode and related options for checking on that possibility: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems. Any luck?
