Firefox works ok until I enter passwords on any site, then stops responding. If closed will not re-open.

I'm running windows 7 and firefox 17. I have tried uninstalling and re-loading and re-setting, but problem persists. MS IE still works ok.

Found the problem. Some kind of "security" plugin had been installed called: Rapport. It locked up the browser anytime I tried logging into a bank, eBay, etc... It subsequently disabled all other browsers (IE, Chrome). It is not only a plugin but runs as a windows service and is no picnic to remove. Had to do it in safe mode.

Good luck.

I have already been through the self help screens. It has only started doing this in the last five days. No settings have changed. Browsing is fine, until I try entering passwords. Then stops responding and PC needs to be re-booted before Firefox can be re-opened.

Same problem here. In addition, not only will FF not restart after closing, but IE will not open either. I've shut all instances down in Task Manager but it doesn't help. Attempting to start FF it will show in the TM but won't load up.

Tried disabling AVG anti-virus. No help.

Started Windows in Safe Mode, FF works fine...no lock ups.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I have ben using Rapport since its inception and never had any trouble until recently,I also have Norton 360 installed and this has not caused any bother in the past.I am 86yrs old so any solution you have must be very specific and detailed for me, also instructions how to carry it out.It is a real pain having to re-start every time I try to get my bank details!!!!!!
