Re: Firefox freezes when flash is used.

I am using Windows 7 and I have the same problem. When I went to 3.6.4, Firefox would lock up every time I tried to play any flash video. I tried several sites and it would lock up every time requiring me to terminate with task manager. I updated Flash player and even tried uninstalling and installing again, nothing would fix this problem.

I read they have supposedly separated the plugins like flash in a separate process to keep firefox from crashing if flash does, but apparently they have not done this right. I had to go back to Firefox ver 3.6.3 and flash works without any problems in that version. Seems firefox needs to correct 3.6.4 since it seems it's messed up flash video for a lot of users, if not most. It's useless if it can't play flash since almost all websites use this format!

Same here. I wish Mozilla didn't push an update that didn't play well with something as commonplace as Flash.

Re: Firefox freezes when flash is used.

Please make sure your Flash plugin is up to date: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

If you're having issues with 3.6.4 and the Flash plugin, please take a look at Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again and increase the timeout as indicated.

Re: Firefox freezes when flash is used.

It also happens to me on Windows Vista SP1, Firefox 3.6.4, flash up to date. Youtube usually does it, and if I kill plugin-container.exe the browser unfreezes, of course, without the plug-in content.

Your very helpful JYOuyang, but the proble is the new flash and it stays in the frozen state, so ya "very helpful" there.

Re: Firefox freezes when flash is used.

Yup, same thing. With the latest Firefox and the latest Flash, I got so many crashes on flash enabled sites I've had no choice but to disable flash in Firefox, and the fact that when I try to search for help on this problem, 95% of the pages I get are nothing more than mindless drones pretending to be "tech reporters" regurgitating the press release claiming "Flash won't crash your browser anymore! Wheeee!" does nothing for my good mood.

Everything worked fine with the prior versions. I was good little moron and followed the suggestions to upgrade both. Now a significant chunk of web content is unavailable to me, and the only thing I am hearing is self-congratulatory pap from Mozilla and the so-called "press".

Try disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player display settings. Ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Performance_or_display_issues_...

Re: Firefox freezes when flash is used.

same problem here: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; de; rv:1.9.2.14) Gecko/20110218 Firefox/3.6.14 i got it running on 64 bit windows with the latest and greatest flash Shockwave Flash 10.2 r152 and NO its not HW-acceleration. Firefox Freezes. *EVERY* time i go to youtube! it really makes me think about using chrome. i have to pull out the taskmanager and kill firefox. only thing that helped a bit was http://forums.techarena.in/technology-internet/1219058.htm "Open my computer and your c drive. Then open documents and settings and the your user name folder. Then go to application data > macromedia > flash player >shared object > GVP00001. Delete all the file from this folder. In the same way C > Documents and Settings > username > Application Data > Macromedia > Flash Player > macromedia.com > support > flashplayer > sys. Clear all the files form this folder also. Then just restart your computer."

that worked. but only a few videos and restarts later it would freeze again. hey, i'm not going to do this every second day. yes i know this is 99% a flash issue and not a firefox issue. but IE works, chrome works. so please, *please*, PLEASE fix it or find a solution or workaround or kick the guys over at macromedia.

the two things that hold me here is my deep and long love for firefox. and the del.icio.us plugin ;-)
